What's going on??

Recently, on a couple of ocassions the car has failed to start. The first time was approximately 2 months ago and I put that down to the fact that I hadn't driven the car for 4-6 weeks. I charged the car (for maybe 30 mins at least) and its been fine since. Until last night that is.

After driving for approx 15-20 miles, I left the car parked for just under a couple of hours and when I returned, it wouldn't start. I tried numerous times. I ended up calling the RAC and as soon as the chap arrived, and before he had a chance to do anything, it started. And every subsequent attempt of starting the car was successfull.

The battery is a new Bosch battery and possibly only 6 months old. The RAC chap tested the alternator and said that's fine.

The dme relay is not a year old, as is the dizzy cap and the fuel filter.

Last year I had problems with the car Intermitently cutting out but RPM diagnosed the problem and corrected the vacum leaks. That sorted out the intermitent cutting out issue.

Recently, the engine oil light came on for approx 15 minutes but only once and hasn't reappeared. The oil was changed during the last service and the car hasn't done more than a 1-2k miles since.

The car is a late turbo. Any idea's what may be causing the issue?
 
Yep, it earths through the main loom. Clean the 2 earths at the back of the engine which is a pain to get into, they are attached to a stud that protrudes at a 45 degree angle beside the 2 crank refernce sensors. Best to clean them all when you are in there, got to be worth a try. Also clean the earth for the battery in the boot. I had one last week trying to turn itself into a heating element, it got that hot you couldn't touch it and it was smoking!

Not really sure exactly where to find all the earths though. (Despite your description) Does anyone have a pic or know a link to a pic showing exactly where the earths are?

What is the best way to clean the earths?
 
Lift the carpet in the boot you will see a couple in there, chassis beside the battery, chassis legs with the bonnet up just behind the headlamps, engine as described by Al, passenger side footwell up past the bonnet pull on to the body.
Take them off clean with some emery paper or similar re assemble with some vaseline.

Been tidying the garage so I can start parking the 944 in the garage. Once I've done that, I'll be able to take my time and do it properly.

Out of interest, does anyone know how much buying new would cost?

Or are there 'upgrade' options?
 
you dont need to buy new wires...just clean them as mention above so that they have a good contact point to the car :)
