What should I ask for her?

I have been a PCGB member for 18 months now after purchasing my '88 Lux and have enjoyed the time I have had with her immensely. Unfortunately, due to baby, company car and house extension, she is going to have to go.

She is Azure Blue, 77K miles, I am the second owner, has 12 months MOT, 12 months tax, just had cambelts changed along with water pump, new brake discs and pads all round. Full service history, refurbished alloys (the original ones - not sure if they are called cokie cutters), (spare set also included), good tyres. Generally in great condition, all electrics work, including the sunroof, orginal panasonic stero, I even have the original bill of sale.

She does need some paint touching up, but apart from that starts every time, has a Sigma category 1 alarm. Registration is E209 OFX and is being dry stored for me by friends who own a recovery garage. I have only put on 1500 miles in 18 months. The previous owner had the car from new and used it to drive to the Gym!!!!

What can I expect to get for her? I have seen various prices of cars from £2K to £7K. I assume I can ask for somewhere in the middle due to the mileage. I will put an ad in the Porsche Post, Pistonheads but probably not Ebay.

Please help, but don't be too quick, as the longer I keep her the better.

(I am fighting the company for a boxster and the wife to keep the 944, a battle I am sure to lose!)

Thanks in advance

What model? On an E-plate I'm thinking Lux as you don't say it's a Turbo and the S2 wasn't out then, but which engine as it could be a 2.5 8v, 2.5 16v or 2.7 on that reg? It won't have cookie cutters at that year - teledials?

What's the interior: Sports? Cloth/leather/haf & half? Colour?

Azure blue I would imagine is not a great seller to be honest, but you're probably in the right ball park with your guesstimate.

Can you not have an allowance from the company instead of a car and then get something you want - or use the 944 if you'd like to?

after purchasing my '88 Lux

Fen - you missed this bit.....[;)]

Luxes, Luxi or whatever we call them are always the poor relation! I'd say that anything over the £3k has to be special, and I've not heard of any making £4k in recent memory. ( To be fair that is about 5 minutes...)

Assuming that the condition is as good as you describe then hold out for the price you want, but it should fly away for something around there. By good condition, for that price, people won't expect perfection but will not want rust, tatty interior and cracked windscreen as I saw on some "mint" cars. []

Azure Blue is lovely. Don't listen to Fen.

It is a Lux. 2.5 8 Valve with pinstripe cream cloth interior with electic seats. The wheels are teledials.

I is in good condition, with no cracks in the windscreen etc. When I get to the office, I will put up some pictures.

Alan.

Hi Alan,

Then if it's a really good Lux , low mileage with the big service done and loads of history, tidy interior, decent tyres, no rust etc. And - I mean all the things like belt changes and tyres are not only low miles but recent - as in another thread, who'd buy, or even risk starting, the Turbo Cab with 13-year-old belts.......[]

I'd go for the £3995 and hold out if you can wait. There are people out there looking for the best cars to keep long-term, but there are a lot more buyers who want a Porsche parked on the estate for as little as possible. Every knackered car on E-bay for £400 with the usual bull about it's condition makes your really cracking car look very expensive!

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

I agree that was the figure I had in mind £4000 It sounds like its worth the extra £1000 because its a nice colour with acceptable interior and low mileage and excellent service history and only two owners . Very rare I should say.

.If you are in no hurry to sell I would wait for the right buyer. You could try chucking it on a local garage forecourt for high visibility. .

Without wishing to be negative Azure blue is dark non-metallic blue. Such colours are known in the trade as "doom blue". I isn't a selling point. Seriously.

Having said that I still think £4k for a really nice Lux is doable in any colour and it isn't horrible, but if you lined up identical Luxes in all the colours available at the same price on a forecourt the Azure blue one would be one of the last to sell.

Got the colour wrong, it is OCEAN blue metallic, according to the original bill. Car is located in Cheltenham in a storage facility, and can be viewed at any time to suit.

Ideally as close to £4k as possible.

Alan.

Jeez - it just went from one of the worst colours to my personal favourite! Seriously I think Ocean is gorgeous - even nicer than Cobalt. It just goes to show how much difference a metallic makes as TBH Ocean and Azure are similarly dark.
