i phoned my local opc this morning and priced up the boot lock rubber, the slipper pads (good prices, cheers for the heads up!!) but they weren't in stock. they did say they had a camchain repair kit, but the guy on the phone didn't know what it contained.
anyone here tell me what a camchain repair kit contains? the chain itself was £21 and slippers 7.31 each. does the repair kit contain the chain, slipers etc....??

cheers,

Al.

I need to order these parts my self ready to change in the winter.. I know it was done at 58,000 and it's on 89,000 I just want to make sure it's done right in my ownership
do you have part numbers I can use ?

cheers

Oh I take it yours is the same as mine S2 Cab 91

Don't know what a cam chain repair kit contains, but those are very good prices for slippers. So good, it may be worth double-checking that they are giving you what you expect. The top one typically is about £8, but the bottom one is usually nearer £60.

With a bit of luck the mistake has been made in the pricing, but just mahe sure that when you get them, you have one slipper which looks like a squashed letter 'C' and one that looks like a thin letter 'L'.

Hi Al,

Had this done recently myself. One of the slipper pads is still available on it's own for about £7, the other(can't remember whether it's upper or lower) is now only available as a tensioner 'kit' for about £70 inc VAT which I believe only contains an additional couple of screws.

Several people have tried recently to find this slipper on its own, but I don't believe anybody actually found any.

BTW I recently had belts, chain, all rollers, tensioners, rocker gasket, PAS and alternator belts + oil and filter change, total bill £1133 as my Indie now charges £57.50 + VAT per hour

ekk I will be doing mine my self free labour but it take 3 times as long.. With Mrs 912uk's Coffee and Cake budget missing from my car fund alowance!!

The camchain tensioner repair kit has top and bottom slippers and costs £75 inc from OPC. Craig Harris at Cardiff OPC spares got me one straight away shipped it direct to the garage who were doing the work. Most indie suppliers (Berlyn, Porscheshop etc) seem only able to provide the top slipper. When my car was done last week, the top slipper was OK but the bottom one was knacked. YHBW

A definitive answer - fantastic! And in only a smidge over an hour!

912UK, I sympathise. Only I have a wifes-chocolate-budget shaped dent in my car fund, rather than a coffee-and-cake shaped one. How they spend so much on comestibles is beyond me ... []

cheers guys. much appreciated.

i'm budgeting £1k max for all the bits to be done, so i think (hope!!) it'll come in budget.
i've already had the service done, so thats boxed off. and the rear screen is getting fitted on the 18th of this month, so i hope all the jobs are done for me to really enjoy the car [:)]

Wolfie, does the repair kit contain both slipers, or just the bottom? and do i have to order the chain seperately?

didnt read that properly, sorry matey [;)]

so, i'll need the chain seperately? forgive me asking the q's, but i'm new to porsche so i dont know nowt!!! [:D]

what do i actually need then for a complete chain, sliper, all belts and water pump change? do i need rollers, tensioners, gaskets????

if i can get everything i need then give it to the garage, then its only the labour i'll need to pay for on top, so saves them paying over the odds for the parts if they dont know where to get them from.

Al,

Have a read of this - it may help:

You will find that there are as many opinions as there are S2 owners, and each one is different.

An aside; you are proposing to buy parts and give them to a garage to fit. It's worth being a little careful when doing this as if a part fails prematurely then the garage may well absolve responsibility for it as they didn't supply it, and hence leave you with the labour cost of replacing it (and repairing any damage that may ensue.)

I know the garage will add a mark-up if they buy on your behalf, but 10% on parts worth £250 or so could be a fair price to pay for good peace of mind. If they don't know where to buy them from then give them contact names and prices and let them get on with it.

Just my $0.02's worth.

Deafasa, if you want to know whats in the kit for sure, give Craig Harris a ring. Number is 02920 350911 and ask for him in spares. He can give you chapter and verse.

cheers gor the help, i've just phoned Craig and when i get home, i'll give him the chassis no, and phone him back, and he's going to tell me exactly what i need for the car and if i want, order off him. he's also going to send me some pics of the engine to show me what i need or not, and where everything goes!

considering i've just phoned him to ask advice and i'm not getting the work done by him, the service there is second to none!!

cheers for the recommendation [:D]
