Hi All,
I have posted before about my search for a late model 996 or early 997 I looked at several late 996 models but partly through the forums was drawn to the 997 but this choice would stretch my budget for what will be a daily driver particularly through the winter.
Well 3week ago an 997 within my budget came to my attention but a decision had to be made on the spot as the seller was being sent abroad at short notice. So cardinal sin, a decision on a complex car without the opportunity to Get a PPI.
Armed with my overalls, tools, inspection lamp, the buying guides off the forum plus lots of info from the same source I went to look at a 2005 997. I crawled all over and under the car could only find a fault with the drivers side headlamp washer. After my own limited inspection and lengthy test drive I decided to bite the bullet and shook on the deal.
Two days later I went to collect the car and felt very unsure about what I had got myself into. On the way homeI booked the car in for a major service and inspection at TWG in Peterborough. Stable doors and horses passed through my mind.
On reflection it was a risk but the car was exactly what I was looking for and within my budget. In the 3 weeks of ownership waiting for a service appointment I have covered over 2000 trouble free miles.
Well today it went to TWG Porsche specialist in Peterborough for a major service and complete inspection. I had a vey nervous day waiting for the phone to ring with "bad news", had I bought a lemon of a peach?
As I sure you can imagine I couldn't concentrate on much so I washed and polished my Boxster which now will only come out through the winter when the weather suits it now tucked up in its cover waiting for some sunshine.
Then the phone call, 8 hours of waiting, "The cars finished ready to collect and no problems" the service manager said it is a well maintained car in really sound condition front tyres show signs of perishing and one valve needs replacing soon.
What a relief I'm feeling pleased with myself and thankful for all the info available on the forums.
I will sleep well tonigh t;-))
