Welcome to the Speedster forum

Chris Davenport

Moderator
Hi,

Welcome to our new forum initially with myself acting as moderator.
My work means I am often away from my PC for a number of days at a time, therefore would anybody like to volunteer to be the Speedster Register moderator? Remember that we are a small Register so I do not imagine that this would take more than a few minutes of your time every couple of days.

Even if you can't help out do keep visiting the forum, get involved with the discussions and meet with fellow owners - albeit virtually, otherwise I'll end up talking to myself!

Regards,
Chris
[:D]

P.S If any Speedster owners read this please post a reply, thanks.

it is possible to have more than one Moderator for a particular forum so helping Chris is a shared exercise...

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the email mentioning this sub-forum - a great idea. I have tended to visit the Smartgroups Porsche 964 Forum till now, but its very useful to have a special Speedster one now.

I think it' s the first Speedster one on the internet in fact!

Also I would be happy to have a go at being a moderator, as your first volunter. I have an adsl connection & wireless network at home and tend to have online access pretty well all the time. Please let me know what I need to do.

On a final note, I have put a deposit down for a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and am very sad to say the Speedster ' may' have to go over the summer...

Of couse, if the Cayenne is not up to scratch in the test drive, then the Speedster stays.....so we shall see....

Well done PCGB with the forum too!

FYI
I cancelled my Cayenne order as soon as I saw one at the Motor Show!
Its probably a great drivers' car but useless for going to Waitrose (I was buying one to replace the Merc not replace the 996) - you might want to check out the ease (or lack) of lowering the rear seats and see if you wife can open the tailgate (mine couldn' t because of the weight).
If you do get one perhaps you will moderate a Cayenne section???

Hi Sandeep,

Great to see you on here and many thanks for offering to moderate the forum, as Jeff suggested I' ll stay on as an assistant moderator.

I' d love to get a Cayenne as a daily driver but in my work I have to throw lots of dirty items in the back of my car and wouldn' t do it to a car of that value. [:(]

Question regarding your hardtop, do you have to remove the hood mechanism to fit it?

Note to Jeff: Can you set Sandeep up as a Moderator? Thanks.

Chris

Hi Jeff

Thanks for the advice and things to watch out for...

A few other compliants I heard about included terrible fuel economy and the fact that you may not be able to reach the tail gate when it is open if you are not tall enough - a very embarrising situation to be caught in I am sure! (my wife is 5ft 1" and I' m only 5ft 7" ....)

Also the sales person I have been delaing with is very keen for me to confirm my spec and get a build date - and I haven' t even driven the car yet - a bit pushy I think, maybe because people are cancelling orders possibly...

My reasons for considering it are a bit mixed and include
- Performance
- Size (5 seats for a family)
- Projected high demand and residuals
- very good interior
- Its a Porsche
- Its new from Porsche
- compartive cost/value to other Porsches (i.e. a lot of engineering for the money)

I just realised that 4x4 offroad ability is not on my list...

The appearance is not to my taste, but it could grow on me.

Will keep you informed what happens and would be happy to moderate the other Cayenne forum if we do get one...

Did you get a chance to drive one Jeff?

My alternative was/is a 996 Targa as a second family car, as the rear windscreen lifts up to get a pushchair in!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for getting the moderator access sorted out so quickly - I just need to check now what a moderator has to do, to be a good moderator(!)

With regard to the hardtop, you only need to detach the flip over humps and the hood stays in place as normal. The hardtop then just attaches to the same mounting points and also near the seat belt attachments.

The last few years I got Porsche to do all the fitting for winter and removal for summer, they needed to adjust the window height too.

This time round I did all myself and managed it all with a friends help in about 2 hours.

I originally ordered it from a Porsche dealer in Finland who was a prominent Strosek customer. He managed to arrange for direct shipping to the UK instead of Finland at no extra cost. H R Owen in London took care of the painting and fitting after it was delivered directly to them. I think the mechanics enjoyed having something different to do!

Hope the info helps!

Hi Robert,

I thought your other love was the Mini Cooper S, the Speedster must be getting quite jealous [8D]

Chris

[;)]Well I can' t deny that the MINI fun factor takes some beating irrespective of price!
