weird noise

that may be right, that would suggest thst the noise comes from the valve seating/unseating at a certain rev range, at what revs does the valve unseat to release excess pressure when hot,at 1500 revs does the pump produce enough flow to reach max pressure plus (the criteria required to open the prv) may be worth checking out.

Hi John,

I'm going to break from my usual lurking cover and suggest the OPRV could be a suspect. I had a weird 'woooing' noise after changing the oil cooler seals which turned out to be the OPRV that wasn't seated exactly.

I'm in agreement with Rick that its the Oil Pressure Relief Valve. Just after I bought my car I had a low pitched whooshing groan from the front of the car once it was up to temperature. My indy changed the OPRV and it went away

... and can we go back to the "S2 vs Turbo" argument please - it was just getting interesting and might be a good test of the "expletive-filter"

I think the OPRV is the way to go,I have a bit on at the minute so will have to leave it for now but will try that next,If you are reading this and change your OPRV first let me know if you have a cure. Many thanks for everyones input, all the best John.

OK. You start.
Well, I am not in the discussion (on S2 vs Turbo) as my 2.7 has torrents of instant power and far fewer bits to go wrong. Why would you want anything else? No doubt that view will change as and when we ever get to have a track day and I am passenger in some of the bolides that grace these pages.

944S2 to 944T (250) is what 924 to 924T is. Up a long two lane hill near where I live a Nissan 250 z (305 bhp) could not get past me because I was in the right gear and the turbo was spooled up. Due to the very slight lag before getting full beans he did get his headlights level with my back wheel. I rest my case.
