water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink!

hi all, firstly I'm into the second month of my '82 gold 944 and I haven't stopped smiling... square dash all the way!!!

however... my passenger footwell has a zen water feature running into it from somewhere... i've sealed up the side indicator hole but i'm still able to do a few widths breast-stroke up to the fuse box and back when it rains.... so which of you out there knows where this water is coming from... i'm guessing it's a classic early 944 problem which was resolved on later cars.. but for now, even though the olympics is coming up i'd rather go to the local baths if i feel the need to get my feet wet...(floor pan looks solid though!)...

thanks for any ideas...

Hi Jason
Common problem many possibilities!
Scuttle outward and behind the battery. Need to take battery out to have a proper look.
Make sure scuttle drains aren't blocked, as water can flow in through heater.
Sunroof drains if you have one.
Check sill cavity through door jamb vent.
That should give you a start.

Late cars are just as fond of becoming rolling goldfish bowls too.
Sunroof drain holes (if it has one) are a common one too. Make sure they are clear by pouring water in the lip and see where it exits.

Battery tray can rot out and because the battery is sitting on top you can't see the holes. The first thing I would do is remove the battery and check for holes then claer out all drain holes and go from there.

Been said in nearly every post Jason, but I will add my voice to "check under the battery" choir!

924's and early 944's are really prone to leaking there, battery acid, leaves and crud make it a haven for rust, there is a seam there as well which can start to leak when the seam sealer starts to break down.

Series one cars usually leak on the drivers side, when the drains are blocked (tear the rubber flaps off!), so Im going to guess that theres an acid corrosion hole over the top of the fusebox.
