I have just purchased a 2008 997 4S has 66k miles the seller had a 111 point inspection done at Porsche ctr Edinburgh the idea was that when it passed I would purchase a 2 yr warranty from Porsche, the car passed the inspection ok but we can not get the warranty as it has a non Porsche battery 1 yr old Bosch not good enough, and the car has different n rated Michelin pilot sports front to back tyres are all 4mm plus so lots life ,this does seem a bit odd as neither parts are covered ,any way enough rant can anyone recommend a good aftermarket warranty
Cheers Kerr

The Club has a Business Partner UVW (Used Vehicle Warranty ) www.usedvehiclewarranty.co.uk phone 0800 021 3030. I have no connection with them so its up to you if you contact them. PCGB members get 10% discount.

If I was cynical I would say it seems a little like a marketing scam to me: Buy our "special" tyres or your engine might blow up. It would be nice to be able to buy the best tyres AND have a Porsche warranty. If you want a Porsche warranty in some cases you have to buy less safe tyres. I guess they are just trying to make money. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Last time my Car was in the dealers, the tech said to me "I see you have put a decent battery in it then"... A Bosch S5. I have read the Porsche Moll batteries tend not to last too long. I wonder why they insist on them when there are obviously better batteries out there?! [;)]

apparently that is why the previous owner changed to the Bosch battery after looking at Porsche forums ,it has to be about making money the items discussed are not even covered by the warranty,it has had the opposite effect ,as I will now buy a aftermarket warranty, and we are all talking about it

It really is a disgrace Kerr.

Porsche get you to buy their extended warranty, insist that you purchase a Moll battery to comply (do Porsche own or have a stake in the company?) and if it fails, it's not covered by their warranty. Catch 22..!

Nobody mentioned the over rev get out clause yet I see.[&:]

I remember on my 987 that a warranty extension could not be placed on the car without an engine compression test and borescope examination due to the engine being reved into band 4 for 3 ignition cycles in its first 15 hours. I bought it with an approved used porsche warranty with 160 odd hours on the ecu. Go figure that one?

I agree that the warranty acceptance conditions do seem overly strict, but I'll bet BMW, Merc, Audi and all the others are just the same. The warranty is good though, I am now in my third year of extended warranty which has paid for itself in covering repairs to cooling system leaks and oil leaks. Personally I wouldn't touch an aftermarket warranty with a barge pole, but that is just my deep distrust of anything to do with insurance companies. []

See my post on the 997 forum concerning collapsed springs.
Warranty helps, aftermarket or not - I guess it just depends upon the one you buy/are sold.
Mine is Warranty Direct and I can't complain.

I had a Porsche warranty with my 996 Turbo for 9yrs and certainly got my money worth. Come renewal times (on Porsche advice, no Im not telling you who) I swapped my Bosch battery with a pal for a Porsche one and it passed the inspection.
Ive now got Warranty Direct and recently while my car was in for a major service Porsche recommended a couple of coil packs and Warranty Direct covered them. So far so good? They also cover wear and tear of certain parts.
