Very early 944 value?

I'm looking for a quick canvassing of opinion "¦ what's a reasonable value for a very early 944? Specifically a 1982/83 which seems to be in pretty good nick? Not concours, but definitely good?

I'm being offered it in part-ex for my 1987 Lux because the guy has always wanted one in black and fancies updating to an oval-dash. I'm wondering how much to knock off for the exchange.

Interesting question!

I'd suggest that the value would be far more down to the car itself rather than the age. Assuming that mileage, condition, options, service record etc are absolutely equal then the older car would be worth less, but by how much? I can't remember the last time I saw an early-dash sell for more than about £1500 if that's any help.

I've just lost track because the values of all standard models seem to have been dropping like stones. A quick eBay trawl shows square dash 944s selling for as little as £650, which is scandalous "¦ but understandable when you can pick up a late-model oval dash for £1,500 now.

That's my point. Any crap 944 is going to be a money-pit. Any really good one is worth more to the owner than to a purchaser as you never get a true premium for any work you put in.

Unless you have a really good reason why your car has to go then why change? The devil you know.....[8|]

Obviously if you have 5 children and need to tow a caravan then a change of car is desirable. To me swapping a well-known Lux for an older, less-known Lux seems slightly risky!

Och, my Lux has "˜needed to go' for a year now. I bought my Turbo and I don't have garage space for both. I've been paying rental on a second garage to house the Lux for far too long.

Even half the value of the Lux would be useful just now, as money is short for a few months having just got married and adopted a puppy!

I'm also wondering whether a good "˜standard' older car might be easier for me to sell online. A lot of people are put off by the non-standard looks of my black stealth Lux, you see (tinted windows, tinted lights, 3-piece Speedline alloys, deleted rear wiper, and so on).
