URGENT FUEL LEAK ADVICE NEEDED PLEASE

Hi Guys I have a 1989 2.7 944, this morning at 2.30am I went to get in my car for work when I noticed a strong smell of fuel, so using my phone as a torch I looked under the rear of the car & the ground was clear no evidence of a fuel leak, I then looked under the front of the car & noticed a wet patch just behind the drivers side front wheel almost under the drivers door, I followed this & it looks to be coming from the group of pipes that run behind the front arch liner between the inner arch & front strut & the fuel is running down the pipes to the lowest point, visibility is quite limited under there without removing the liner itself, but if I look up between the liner & inner wing it looks to be pretty wet up there, just wondered if this is a common area for a leak & if it is what part is likely to be the culprit ? im fearing a fractured metal fuel pipe, which means it will probably be a pig to do & cost a small fortune to repair, im good with tools, but its the time & parts cost that's worrying me. Leak isn't too bad at the moment, its not gushing out, maybe a drop onto the floor, every 2 minutes or so. any help appreciated, cheers, Jinxy

Might be worth looking at this recent post

cheers guys that looks exactly the problem I have, seems like I may have spotted it in time, I take it from the photos of the pipework, that the two pipes in the centre of those pictures are the fuel pipes ? the rest look like brake pipes, anyone have any ideas of cost & how bad the job of replacing them is ?, cheers again, Jinxy

I had all my fuel lines replaced earlier this year from fuel tank to fuel rail. Using mainly genuine Porsche parts the total parts cost was about £350 and they charged me about £250 labour to do it.

Thanks for that Keith, certainly worth thinking about as I also need my handbrake cables replacing too which I have boxed up here, they are genuine parts so no reason not to fit them, may get them to do everything, just hope that have a way to collect my car from my house, there is no way im driving it after seeing those pictures !!

Just an update really, finally managed to remove the inner front wheel arch liner to get a better look at where the leak was coming from & its definitely from the metal fuel line, the line above the pipe retaining damper plate is dry as a bone, below that plate is wet, if you wipe the pipe, you can see the pipe instantly wet again, so it seems that rubber plate harbours dampness & eventually rots the pipe away !! new set of pipes now ordered from Warren at Porsch-apart then its off to the garage to get them to fit & finally sort out my handbrake problem once & for all !, Jinxy
