Upgrades to an SC

Hi

Ive been looking into 911 ownership for about six months now and have settled on either a late SC or early 3.2.

On the SC front, I was wondering if there is a list of recommended upgrades to do. I have heard a lot about the need for a pop off valve and was wondering what else is recommended.

cheers for Oz

Hi Pagey, if you are planning on keeping the car stock then budget £50.00 for a pop-off valve if you DIY add an hours labour for a workshop to fit it. Take your time and buy the best car you can afford. The mechanics on an SC are simple and if it's been maintained well should last you for years. The enemy is rust, get a PPI from someone reputable like Peter Morgan or someone else recommended here. There is not a lot you can do to upgrade an SC unless you are really into modifying. That is a whole different ball game. For a stock car an upgrade which will add to it's value is a conversion to proper SSI heat exchangers and a complementary stainless steel exhaust box. Some subtle steering, suspension and brake upgrades would add to your enjoyment. For instance a smaller diameter Momo or similar 'sports' steering wheel to replace the huge device fitted as standard. Turbo tie rods to sharpen up the steering and new sport Bilstien shock absorbers. No Porsche is cheap to upgrade; this lot could set you back £2250-£3000 depending on how you go about it.

hi,
If you are buying an SC try to buy one with the oil fed tensioner kit fitted or deduct £500 from the asking price and get it fitted yourself. I believe you will get this money back when you sell the car.
