Unusual audio wiring in 993 with sound pack?

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Decided to replace the Kenwood system in my R reg 993 Turbo - and found that the DIN plugs that I have seen in a 993 C2S, actually feeds into a small black box in this car, with a round 8 pin plug!

This car has the OEM sound pack - does this imply that someone has hidden a Kenwood power amp somewhere, or is this arrangemnt standard when the sound pack is fitted?

on my 993 with sound pack, the amplifier is hidden under the drivers seat and needs to be connected up for the wiring to feed the speakers, I disconnected it and no sound to the speakers! The whole system is actually Nokia, rather than Kenwood!
