Under bonnet sound proofing

Evening folks, hope your having a good weekend. i seem to remember later s2s didn't have any sound proofing, and mines a j reg, so what's that scruffy looking 5 x 5 inch bit under my bonnet for near the middle?
While I'm at it, is the expansion tank for coolant? I only ask cos mines got a sticker next to it mentioning air con. Is coolant a simple case of blue or pink and don't mix them? Mines blue, so just need to top up with blue?
Regards

Just for clarity - When you are standing in front looking at the engine - coolant expansion tank is to your right. Windscreen cleaner is to your left. Windscreen cleaner is often blue also but I have seen pink and green. Unfortunately antifreeze can be any of those colors also. Just to be sure - the expansion tank has a pressurized cap while the windscreen cleaner just has a pop on plastic cap.

Foamy square was on my 91s2..now gone replaced by full foamy bits both sides with crest and Porsche 944s2 script ,from Jaeger engineering Canada, also sold by 944online in Usa now..:p

Correct, Porsche dropped the under-bonnet sound proofing for the later cars. Most seem to have (or have had) a lonely square of foam padding in the area that would be over the distributor when the lid is closed. As to why, I have no idea.
