ULEZ Compliance (not) 2005 Cayman

We have a member with a 2005 Cayman S. Despite the V5 clearly showing the emissions are within the specified limits, Transport for London (TFL) is insisting that this car is not compliant. Porsche no longer offer any support (TFL will only accept certification of the specific vehicle from the Homologation Department)

Are there any other ULEZ based, early Cayman owners out there who have come up against this?

Hi John,

Chances are this is an error on the DVLA's part. I'd recommend starting by giving them a call or using the following link to contact them:
https://contact.drive-clean-air-zone.service.gov.uk/

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, many 996 owners have successfully obtained a Certificate of Conformity (COC) from Porsche Germany. They can do this by completing the attached PDF and emailing it as instructed in the document.

Good luck!
Andy

Hi John,

I think that this is a subject which has been broached on other forums … 993 and 964?

If you search ULEZ you’ll find quite a few posts which could be a useful starting point.

Jeff

Have you put a private plate on the car. TFL seem to lose the origins of a car sometimes.

You can get a certificate of conformity from Porsche.

986 is ulez conpliant but sometimes you have to get the above since the emissions are not on the v5

987 are lie compliant. Look up the numbers for NOX and check your v5 - if it’s not there you need the CoC (certificate) mentioned above.

Also. ULEZ is just London. Other uk cities are CAZ - they don’t share databases so you need to check / fix there as well for cities like Bath etc.

Thanks everyone. I should have said, I did a search but was principally looking to see if other Cayman owners had successfully negotiated this minefield. There must be some more within the zone but I have not seen any reports of others having issues. TfL seem to got themselves into a 'Non' position on this one and have no iinterest in changing their minds.

Thank you Andy for the Certificate of Conformity Order Form. I will contact them and see if they are still providing this service as I have seen reports that they have stopped it.

As a check, I used Autotrader to find a couple of early Cayman S reg numbers. Plugging these into TFL's ULEZ checker (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle). One was reg Dec 2005, other was 2006 and both came up as ULEZ compliant. As Paul suggests, the problem could relate to a reg transfer and timing of updates through DVLA and TFL. Did your member put his reg into the TFL checker. If so did it come up with the correct car details. If not and he knows the original reg no try putting that in.

Had this multiple times.

For ULEZ compliance the NOx emission must not exceed 0.08g/km (ignore original Euro rating).

Your V5 registration document should state the NOx emission amount and 986 / 996 and younger Petrol Porsches are below 0.08g/km.

Send TFL a copy of your V5 with the NOx emission amount highlighted and a simple statement that the V5 shows the NOx emission is within the ULEZ requirement and please update TFL records to confirm the vehicle is ULEZ compliant.

Recommend that you redact some of the V5 document number to prevent fraud before sending to TFL.

Originally did this with our 986, only need the V5 with NOx amount stated on V5. Subsequently done this for other petrol Porsches with the V5s.

Hope this helps.
