I'm sure this has been asked in a previous thread but I'm a newbie and haven't worked out how to search the forum - doh!
What do you guys favour in terms of tyres for your SC? Continental and Bridgestone have been recommended but i wondered what the pcgb favourites are. 205/55R16 front, 225/50R16 rears are currently on the car (Fuchs rims) but previous owner put Chinese tyres on. I apologise in advance lol

I've got Continental Sport Contacts on both my Carrera 3.2 and my Boxster. Can't fault them, they're great all-rounders that also came top in this years evo tyre test

I've also had good service from the Continantal Sport. I'm now on my second set of Michelin Pilot and have found them everything the Contis were plus they lasted longer, handy if you intend putting miles on the car. Strangely made in Germany!

I hate to muddy the waters, but I have Pirelli p6000 and find them great, although my driving style doesn't take the car anywhere near the limit.

I had a quick search for "n1 tyres" and found this old thread

The thread is probably dated in terms of what tyres are available now, but some of the discussion is useful.

The trick with the search utility is to untick "search all forums" and tick the 911 SC forum. Generally I find the pcgb forum awful to use on my phone, might have better luck on a tablet or a PC.

Pirelli are now offering a range of tyres to suit all our classic cars check out this Pirelli link. Pop into your local tyre centre who should be able to advise you. Oh and don't forget your club Pirelli discount may also be available.

Thanks guys. seems like Pirelli, continental and Bridgestone are the ones. A friend in Canada with an 80 SC raves about Bridgestone Potenza as the best he's ever fitted (has continental sport contacts on at the min) so I think I'll get prices for all 3 and see where I end up.

"N" rated tyres were not around when these cars hit the public. I run Toyo's on my 3.2. Remember tyres are very subjective when you ask the question of other drivers. In all probability the major tyre manufacturers will score well as they have good R&D in place and also many are involved in racing.

I think tyre choice comes down to size of pocket, reviews and aesthetics. And if all else fails, trial and error which of course is the costly option. I ran Falkens on my Boxster and I could not get it around the corners without the back end stepping out and giving me heart failure. I now run Goodyear Asymmetric 3 on the Boxster - not N rated - which perform admirably.

Conti's, Pirrelli and Micheline all have great tyres which many Porsche owners use on their vehicles. So which is best for you, thats the million dollar question every car owner asks when they replace their tyres.

When you find that tyre stick to it as long as you are happy. Trouble is tyre manufacturers are always tinkering with tread shape/patterns and compounds which makes choice difficult. Good Luck.

Michelin's are well worthy to extend make the list 4

They will probably be the most expensive however which puts some people off? but turns others on!,

They will be the most comfortable and longest lasting. They have a hard compound but a soft sidewall.

The Bridgestone's are the opposite Hard Sidewall and a Soft (Treadwear) compound, they are more Racey with "less rock and Roll" when cornering hard

but not as forgiving when you need compliance (Rough roads & Wet etc..)

The Conti's & Pirelli are a good compromise in the Middle all rounders.

Thanks Ray. Yes, saw that a newer model is being introduced. Still available and seems to have some good reviews. I was looking at the same site for reviews. Conti seem to come out on top on most reviews. Don't do a huge mileage so am after really fun tyres rather than 20k from a set.

Yes, Tyres as all products are marketed to attract buyers, although a lot of the funky designs are disappearing like the "V" pattern style because they

generate too much noise in the EU tests.

I'm a Huge Michelin Pilot Sport Fan and their Tyres are never that stylish , but the (PS2, 3 and 4) have three central bands,

an inner ribbed section and slightly thicker one on the Outer edge.

It bothers me not what they look like however, but how they feel and perform wet and dry, acceleration and braking etc...

I also have never cared how long they last but because of the hard compound it's a bonus!

The tread pattern from inside the car you cannot see. If sideways you go a bit too much then maybe you might if too far you push it. Best you get something that keeps up the light side, and down the dark side.
