Tyres - Which & where?

Interesting - Porsche spec the Conti's as one of thier "Sport" offerings. (As opposed to "comfort" - I think they class the Yokohamas as "Comfort". - Seems the wrong way round to my thinking!)
 
I have Conti Sport Contact N1's from new and amazingly the fronts still have 4mm of tread after 36k miles. My comments would be that in the wet they have been fine only letting go with deliberate provocation. That said, I don't push too hard on the road in those conditions. Would be good to do an airfield track day and see what they are really like at the limit.
 
I had conti's before and found the Pirelli tyres much better in neraly every respect - better wet/dry grip and progressive, quieter. I even find the wear rate very reasonable.

I heard good things about the Bridgestone SO2's but mixed things about SO3's. Hard to comment without having had experience. Definitely get the alignment checked as it makes a huge difference if it is out. Suggest you either start with factory or Nic's setting and adjust from there depending on how you like the car to feel.
 
I've had Conti's for the last 3 years and I've never had an issue regarding their traction - wet or dry - track or road.

I had Pilots from new which were as good but less noisy IMHO.

Could someone point me to the official Porsche recommended tyres for an S with 17" wheels please? Ours currently has Pilot SXs which are okay for pottering but I'd prefer something more capable.

If the old SO2 is still on the list I might try them. The pole position was a great tyre. Better than the S03 that replaced it.

The latest Eagle F1 (G3?) spec is great. I have that on my soon to be departed 328i
