Tyres - 944 Turbo

I looked up the date code on mine and they are 10 years old!!!
I have put 24,000 miles on them, and it looks like one of them did around 25,000 before I got the car (one was replaced 10k before I bought it)

I have no idea what width the wheels are!
 
Well, that is a fairly key piece of information relating to what tyres you ought to fit...
They look like 996 C2 wheels, which according to my info come up in 7", 8.5" and 9".
If you are on 7" at the front then 205/50.
 
I wore 2 P6000s out on my volvo 940, soemthing to do with the amount of roll that could be created when attacking a roundabout combined with the large mass of a volvo estate. I was also rather concerned to spot the P6000s on the eagle speedster in this months evo - be a shame to spoil that lovely bodywork!
 
Well for my part I now drive 8½ and 9½ on my cabrio and the disgusting understeer I troubled with on the track is gone and the car feels brilliantly :)

Dunlop Dirrezzo (Spelling!?) These are like toyos for tread depth so you could use them on the road,they handle heat better than the Toyos,have a softer sidewalls ,but I am pretty sure you can only get them in 17 inch dimensions.

If you can fit the Exalto tyres to an early Turbo I am positive they would be awesome,I run first gen Exaltos on my pug 205 gti,they do wet,dry and track an amazing allrounder,wish they fitted later turbos.Will be trying to finish my pugs set off on Monday at Silverstone[:)]

Hi Mark, if you mean the DZ03 it comes in 225x45-16 but measures up pretty big and square (228mm width, 223mm tread width and doesn't squidge down as much as many other tyres, the EMC guys reckon they don't alter the overall circumference much if at all despite being a 45 profile rather than a 50. I will likely be moving on to cups though soon for fairly obvious reasons [;)].

Right then having tried the Cups now I much prefer the way they drive, the car can now hook into corners like a kart something it never did before. You can also deal with any understeer quickly, I guess they just react about twice as fast as the Dunlops which is both good and bad depending how one looks at things. I won't be using the Dunlops again as they do in fact gear the car down loads, this caused me issues in a couple of places as I was forced to short shift into 2 corners, and leave it in 3rd or 4th in 3 places I would have preferred to drop down a gear. The first time I realised just how much of a difference was when Barry put my wheels back on the car with the Michelins on, the huge gap in the front arches just went to almost nothing. Even the 225 version looks fatter as well due to the more curved sidewall shape. The 245 version is huge. Stupidly though this size difference didn't stop me from using the same gears in the same places in race 3, but of course at even lower revs [&o].

I really love the way the cups drive although they seem to take forever to warm up, I had gone off the track 5 times by the time they really came on [:D]. Unfortunately all the lock ups has probably damaged the rears.

I have no idea just how bad they are in the wet though.

I am finally rid of the P6000s!!!!!!!

A pair of Falken 452s slapped on the front this morning and it feels so much sharper immediately, although I think they have done their usual trick and over-inflated them, i will muck around with the pressures until i am happy. Sad news is that the rears are at the point of needing doing too, so that'll be next month then...but they have lasted for 25k miles which I think is incredible!

Luckily for me I like the 225x50-16 on the front which are an OK price. Unfortunately I also really like the balance of the car with the 245 ones on the back which I believe are pretty expensive. ISTR Jez Clarke used this combination when he won the championship but I don't think anyone else has been running an S2 like that.

Mark have you seen the new draft regs? Class 3 cars will be limited to 8 tyres per season, perhaps in the near future there should be a similar rule throughout. OTOH if some guys didn't bin their tyres every weekend I would have been stuffed for race 3 or had to spank the credit card.
 
I have used Goodyear Eagle F1 on my S2 for the last 2 years and 16 K miles, I have liked their predictable breakaway and wet weather grip for a long time. The car mildly oversteers where previously it understeered.

Just fitted a set of Hankook winter tyres 205 fronts and 215 rears, had a nice run back from Glasgow up the A82 loch lomond side, from tarbet to the head of the loch is tight and twisty, not as high grip and very mild understeer unless you use the throttle but better traction in the wet by a long way. Be interesting to see the wear rate.

Talking of wear rates my fronts wear in 8000 miles, had alignment done twice, second time was just a check as it was unchanged from previous. wears inside more so change the tyres over at 4 k side to side. Any thoughts? I do have lots of round abouts on my way to work[:D]
