Hi, wonder if someone can help me with answers about tyre profile,
The question is two fold. I run a Cayman and my tyre sizes are F 235/40- 19 and the Rear 265/40- 19 Having received my first package from the club (thank-you) on page 54 there is a full page advert from Pirelli, in the January offers are tyres for Cayman/Boxster sizes 235/35-19 and 265/35-19 as you see the profiles differ. Now my car has almost new tyres on the rear but the front two will need changing later in the year, so should I run on 35 or 40 profile, To save on cost can I run some 35s on the front whilst retaining the 40s on the rear up until they require changing. Hope this all makes sense. Thank-you
 
You have the wrong tyre profiles fitted for 19" wheels on your Cayman. They should be 35 series profiles on all 4 wheels. I would not advise running different profiles on the front and rear axles. I my experience, Pirellis are not the best road tyre choice for the Cayman, P Zeros are ok, but only that.

If you want the best all round road tyre for your Cayman I would recommend Michelin Pilot Super Sports, 235 x 35 x 19 Front, 265 x 35 x19 Rear. MPSS are also pretty handy on the track, wet or dry.

Mr Detroit,

If you are using a 19" rim you should have 40 profile tyres on your car.

The 35 prof tyre is for the 20" rim.

If you mix and match you are changing the diameter (and circumference) of the tyres and you may have issues with speedo readings and other electronic settings.

Richard, the 987 Caymans ran 35 aspect ratio on 19" Wheels but then that was the largest wheel in the listed applications. I have checked and according to the register list you run a 981 Cayman, there are two places that you can check what tyre sizes and aspect ratios you should be using, easiest is in the drivers door opening where there should be a panel telling you tyre sizes and pressures, also in you drivers manual all tyre options should be detailed.

 
Hi Guys

Just to confirm: I'm running 235/35 & 265/35 on 19" rims on my 2006 cayman S (987)

This is correct as Kevan said and also shown on drivers door insert
