I thought i'd check my tyre pressures early this morning and was surprised to see them 2-3 psi below the normal pressures. The nearside tyres were at a slightly lower pressure than the offside tyres.
A couple of weeks ago I checked and adjusted the tyre pressures using a digital tyre pressure gauge and a Michelin compressor. However, at that time I had waited until the middle of the day and the sun heats up one side of the car for several hours due to the where the car is parked. Hence, the pressures on one side of the car were already higher than the other side as the tyres were quite warm despite not having driven the car. I had inadvertently created an imbalance of tyre pressures.
This provided a slightly awkward ride for the last fortnight but nothing to worry about. I rechecked and readjusted the pressures this morning, before the sun had heated up one side of the car and the pressures were low all round. Now, having adjusted them to 29 psi for the front tyres and 36 psi for the rear tyres (I have standard Cayman S wheels by the way), the steering seems much better and the ride and handling has also improved.
It just goes to show how sensitive this car is to difference of 2-3 psi in the tyre pressures.
