Yes link please !

Plus what has been done to tune it ? Am guessing an after market chip ? They smooth the power delivery nicely but don't offer much in the way if extra power if that is what the vendor is claiming.

hi no he said the engine was rebuilt with a differnt cam etc didnt go into lots of detail about the engine other than to say it had a lot of money spent on it.

Hi Dave

Have you been to see this car in person? it looks ok in the pictures but I wonder what faults are not being shown. When a car is advertised as having a recent full body respray I'd be expecting a near faultless paintwork. Now lots of cars have had a respray, mine included but as with most things in life there are good and there are bad paint jobs. £1000 for a full respray is far too cheap and at best it will just be a blow-over which may be hiding all types of problems.
I'd want to see before and after pictures plus pictures taken during the respray, I'd also want to know if the glass was taken out first, if not I'd walk away as it's not a proper job. Yes you can get a decent looking finish without taking the glass out but it will show to those who know where to look and to me it's half measures and I'd never be happy with it, but hey I'm fussy others may be happy. As a guide my glass out respray cost nearly 4k and that was 12 years ago, so you can see why I ask the question? I'm also very dubious about any advert that states ' good for year', generally it means it's not that good.

This link is better

Full body respray for £1000? to do a proper job would be £3000+, at that price its worth a look but I suspect all is not what it seems. Sills could be shot and its difficult to see from the pics.

That says to me his slipper failed and probably wrecked the cam sprockets and cams themselves, it's probably also got piston damage from bounced valves, ok this may have been fixed properly but I doubt it, you'd need to see an invoice with parts replaced listed.

1,000 respray ! no on in Herts will look at respraying a 944 for under 3,000
( I had the odd quote) , no mention of proper service records and 4,000 worth it should be mmore like 24. I dont want to be unfair to a car I havnt seen but im suspecting dog with dodgy paint job.

I bought my car back because it isnt close to perfect but still wears its factory paint. Only a top quality respray will ever come close to Porsche factory paint IMHO.

If its within reach I'd view for the learning experience , who knows it could be a good car.

If its the other end og the country for you I'd walk on by.

'Leather and suede seats'? Were these replaced with vinyl and base spec pinstripe velour for the photographs then? I always lose interest as soon as I see dishonesty or b*llocks in an advert.

Tuned/cams sounds equally accurate and trustworthy...

It's clearly not been sprayed under the bonnet. And the centre storage bit between the seats has it's lid held on with some very crude hinges. Someone who mangles the interior like that isn't going to lovingly care for the rest of the car and my guess is that it hides botches aplenty.

£1000 respray? Maybe that's £50's worth of filler to fill in the rust (i.e. a LOT of it) and some rattle cans to hide the evidence.

Engine work? As Pete said, that'll be remedial work to repair damage, not (as the seller would like you to think) lots of money spent on crafting a very special engine from an otherwise sound one.

Walk on by ... in fact, here's some better advice; run hard!

thanks for.all of the imput everyone i am not near
to the car and nor shall i be!
i did suspect that it was not all that it was made out to.be.
thanks

hold on a minute! this is a 2 grand 944s2. half the time you want to talk prices up, then you criticize a car that's almost being given away...

bear in mind that this car addresses the s2's Achilles heel - so one less thing to worry about. how much is a complete s2 engine worth with a fresh top end + new cams?

if it had been advertised just as having new cams etc.. then you might look at it more favourably.

as for the paint job - well at least it will be red not pink.
it's a 2k car with shiny red paint. My car had a £1400 respray by the P.O. it looks fine to me & fine to people who have seen my (cheap) s2. money buys you a lot more in some parts of the country.

even if it is rusty it may not be terminal and is a negotiating point.

I knew my car was rusty when I bought it, but less than a grand later, wing bottoms, sills and suspension mounts are all fine.

anyway that's me done with being devil's advocate for now[:D]

There's always two ways of looking at it - and you're right EDH, it could be a good option for someone. Snag is that it is almost always cheaper to buy a good car than to buy a cheap car and spend money on it, and this is a prime example. £2250 + £1000 for a pair of sills (which is very much on the cheap side) + £200 to repair the wing bottoms + £500 for the damage to the interior and you are at £3950, which is about what a decent S2 goes for these days. Throw in a couple of unexpected bits (tyres, service, re-doing the engine bits which were done on the cheap) and you are heading rapidly for £4500, which is expensive for an S2.

If you are handy with a sheet metal joggler and can spray then it could be a bargain, but for most people the work will be expensive. Of course I could be wrong - the sills may be sound and the front wings may be blemish-free, in which case it will be a genuine bargain. Are you a gambling man? I'm not ...

Oli.

but there's no need to gamble oli - I'm not suggesting anyone buys it unseen....

if it is rusty in the sills, then it's either a point for negotiation or you can walk away.

but let's not get too precious about what could be a perfectly serviceable car.

And that's true as well edh, of course no-one needs to buy it unseen. However I'd suggest that it's impossible (or at least hard enough to be practically impossible) to be sure what exactly you are buying before you buy it; there is always an element of risk with a second-hand car. This risk can be mitigated (to almost zero) with a good inspection but it will always be there.
