Track day recommendations

I want to take my CS to a track day and be able to drive fast (i.e. faster than I am allowed to drive on public roads). I've never been to a track day before (other than the PDE) so can anyone recommend a suitable track venue for beginners? What kind of things would I need to be aware of (in terms of insurance, etc.)? I just want to do about 30 minutes to an hour. I'm in Middlesex so i'm hoping there's a suitable track venue not too far away.
