TQ: Intermittent starting problem

Can someone guide Rory (a new owner and not a PCGB member... YET!) in the right direction?

924S C reg {1985}

This car has a very good service record. However problems with starting of late. Had new alternator/battery/fuel relay/recent service/ignition coil/water pump. Immobiliser has been checked.Fuel pump is apparently working ok. One garage felt water has got in behind the dash?.I have tried to keep the channels open to let water out.I have not noticed any water in the car.
The car has been failing to start on occasions. Then ok for a while and again all of a sudden fail to fire. It is currently not starting at all. It has been trying to turn over however no spark. All roads seem to be pointing to an electrical problem?. When it has started it has been ok and will not stall. Problem has been intermittent.
Any suggestions please. I have struggled to source an electrical specialist in essex with necessary diagnostic tool to source problem.
Please help.

The most obvious thing to try is replacing the dme relay. On the 944 forum this seems to be the most common cause of failures to start.
