Hi Everyone
We are organising an event at the end of September held at a 2 mile long air srtip where you can check and test your top speed there will be a small charge of £ 10.00 per car for as many runs as you want. £ 2.00 if you just want to come and watch if interested please contact R24

If its Bruntingthorpe beware that if you are following cars unless its been well used you will end up with sandblasted fronts. If its the timed two mile straight on your own then you are ok

Im up for it though [;)]

I'm hoping mine has gone up since last time I found out, but even if not it's fun to check it [:D]

Perhaps this is a silly question, but... given that I'm not terribly keen on even glancing at my GPS at 150mph+ do we have some kind of kit that will be measuring vehicle speeds or will I need to bring a (very light) passenger?

In principle you should bring a heavy passenger - cars typically manage higher top speeds when carrying more weight, due to riding slightly lower on their suspension and thus reducing drag. On the other hand, the more weight you are carrying, the more space you'll need to reach the top speed. Is 2 miles more than enough?

Is 2 miles more than enough?

When the Pistonhead boys hire the two mile straight at Bruntingthorpe they tend to reach approx 90% of their cars potential before having to brake about 1/4mile away from the runway end.

Remember at 180 mph you cover a mile in 20 secs (or 1/4 mile in 5 secs) so don't miss your braking point []

Maybe it's finally time to get my MAF kit and huuuuuuuuge Turbo [8D]

Yes there is profesional timeing equipment ,so hope to see you there will keep you posted on the date .

PS
ROAD ANGELS NOT REQUIRED [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

Never mind Road Angels, by then I should have launch control, WOT upshifts, (the option of) antilag and datalogging of acceleration forces etc. Assuming it's running by then

So the car should be slightly quicker than it is currently then? :ROFLMAO:

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I think it might have reached 2 or 3 mph down the drive when we loaded it up the week before last. That's the target I'll be shooting for. Small steps...[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Forget Fens car. Which one of us is going to post this on Titanic so that Ben and his AMD rebuilt 2.8 litre Turbo nutter can have a chance at cracking the double ton []

I'm interested, but I know I won't hit the top speed in a mere two miles [:D]
There was a Top Gear?? repeat recently with an Aston DB7 or 9 or..? which was trying to hit the 200 mph top speed it is suppose to achieve. At braking point the speed was at 170 odd. This was on a two mile strip. By their calculations it needed another two miles at the rate of accelaration for this to be hit.

It all sounds like a great laugh so put me down for a place - subject to dates etc.

I have little doubt that someone is going to scare themselves going for that extra 2 mph and running out of braking distance.....nominations on a postcard please [;)].
