To sell or not to sell. That is the question.

I think it's old age creeping up but I'm probably going to sell the CS.
I'm trying to convince myself that if I put it into Le Mans whizz across France spec i.e. fit the comfort seats, put the slightly longer/softer Eibach springs on the front/rear Bilsteins, adjust the rear arb to soft, put the road wheels and tyres on etc, that I can use it everyday and it'll be OK.

I used it for 20k miles on the road when I first had it 5 years ago but fuel was a lot cheaper and I'm sure the road's have got madder and I'd hate to see it get wiped out by some dozy bint trying to overtake a parked car when it's my right of way and I'm only 10ft away like this morning[]

Although of course now I am only doing about 8k a year, it starts no matter how hot or cold, it does have A/C, bags of character and I have a Porsche breaker 2 miles away for bits. Plus the 968 bunch are great fun and the people in PCGB who get out there in their cars fabulous and always enthusiastic

I took some pic's ready for here and PH's but it looked so cool with the newly refurbed alloys in dark shiny met grey that I just can't get busy with the listing.

Earlier this year I reindexed the rear bars and had the brakes completly refurbed but didn't really enjoy working on it like I usually do. If I kept it I have some preventative maintenance to do beforehand. I have from the OPC every hose and a new expansion tank to fit plus I'd strip the sills off, clean the arches out and waxoyl everywhere but the thought of that and keeping up the work as needed due to everyday use, does not appeal as it used to.

Definately old age[&:]

Cheers
Dave

Well I probably wouldn't replace it with something permanent. I have the old Golf for dodging about and would probably buy the niche product that want's some work ready for sale that I could have some fun with at the same time.
With the business I do - trade cars - I often come across interesting stuff that just want's a bit of effort to get right but I don't buy it as I have the CS sat in the garage in the way so to speak. There is that spare £10k or so that doesn't affect the working capital that I could have a bit of fun with on a range of car's. I'm turning into an automotive tart[:D]

On tuesday I bid on a TT Sport 240 in red that had done 19k. Due a big service, needed wheels refurbing and a good clean but had Sat Nav, cruise, Bose, CD, one owner and the sensible heated seats.
It will be cheap after some more haggling with the vendor and after some work it'll be the cheapest on the web with all those bits by a mile. I'm currently discussing a 996 C4 with 76k on it that is sound but needs bits to get it up to scratch, an old low miles Audi Coupe, a new shape Jag XJ 3.0 at 40k miles for £10k with all the bits and a few others.

I'm about to leave the house on a see the dealers day about 200 miles+ and it's wet and horrid and thats July[]. I don't feel that the CS is right for me now doing that with it.

I don't want it to sit in the garage though not doing enough and doing nothing over the winter. Also I feel it's finished now with all the bit's on and it's time to move on. We are only keepers of these bits of history and they will still be here after us, hopefully, so maybe somebody else's turn to enjoy it.

Maybe with the big birthday looming I'm having a mid life crisis but isn't that when you buy a Porsche not sell it[:D]

Cheers
Dave

£10k ?, in fishing parlance I think you're pre baiting the swim, soon all the hungry fishes will be waiting to fight over your hookbait. [:D][;)].

Fighting to buy a car? In the current market? Now that would be something.

Get back to the water Pauly, it's a nicer plaice[&:]

Baiting the hook would be actually listing it somewhere which I don't know if I can do now. Having added up all the invoices since I bought it. For £10k. Think perhaps I should get some use out of it for another year and sod the weather, crashed vertebrae, skinned knuckles etc etc.

Cheers

I like your play on words Dave [:D], also the sharks in the water have smaller teeth I think [;)].

Paul.

Except that the sharks may be buyers, and Pauly, you talk prices that make no sense.

Dave, the 968CS has an intrinsic value which will wait for you to make up your mind.

Some of the cars you mention, may not.

You buy 'em and shift 'em, because keeping them costs you time and money.

I'm playing with a very very nice 996 Turbo X50+ cash out of a 996GT3RS, between we two, it may cost me.

But hey ....

Dave I have one the same and have been through the same thoughts but it is far nicer than anything else you can buy and they are not depreciating if it is well kept! It always brings a smile to my face and is much nicer to drive on the roads than a RS.

I have M030 and it feels very comfortable on road.

Don't do it!
charles

I do prefer my 964RS but --- it's three or four times the value.

I don't know how you could have more fun this side of £13k --- which is where Pauly, your £10k makes no sense. Honestly.

What would a Clio Trophy cost you ? less but ????

I never went for the glitzy Audi TT --- which in some ways Porsche copied with the 997 series.

Call me a luddite but, there are a few complaints about worn interiors already on these cars ?

Ah but I didn't introduce the £10k figure, the OP did hence my suggestion it was to attract interest.

Another good reason for keeping - this forum.
Also been looking at some of the cars for sale at the moment. Some nice stuff out there for not a lot of money in my view. £10k is probably right Pauly. General economic situation is not helping so not the time to get rid. I wonder if that and the price of fuel is beginning to have an effect on the trackday market?

Thanks for your input chaps and it's time to start some work on the old git.
After I've sorted her out I'll start on the car[&:]

Went down to PH Sportscars yesterday and picked up a set of embossed wheel centres for the road wheels for a few quid. Realised what a handy resource they are. They have all sorts down there including somebodys very nice 944 in red on 18" Carrera wheels for sale. Very smart.

Now, anybody changed all the hoses on the 968 'cos that's next along with a slight oil mist around the breather under the inlet manifold at the bulkhead end.
So more driving and getting some use out of all the new parts I've fitted.

Cheers
Dave

Well' I've checked the post and I still can't see £10k from an OPC, but Pauly if I've got you wrong please forgive me.

Dave, good luck.

I really rate this car --- huge inertia to start it up (even with a full battery), but we are talking about the largest 4 cylinder engine in the World ? On on the move fab +.

From a time when Porsche really thought they could kill the 911 !

Dave your an idiot.

We all know it.

You know it.

But if you still need it confirming......

[;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)][;)]

Don't do it mate, you've put loads into that car and you'll just end up wanting another and will have to start all over again.

I know you.

Didn't write anything about an OPC ?, if I understood Dave correctly he wrote that his 968 was around £10k of spare capital, No offence taken though.
