Tips for those using the Vodafone VTS tracking system having fob issues

Morning all. Just thought I'd share a couple of tips following my issues yesterday with a Porsche tracker fob. All was fine the last time I used the car a couple of weeks ago, but nipping out at lunchtime yesterday the yellow SD/SIM card warning came up on my dash. I'd only recently changed the battery so I thought it was a glitch, or the car had not registered the fob at the first time of trying. I set off anyway then had the call from Vodafone Automotive asking if my car had been stolen. Whoops.

Once back home I swapped in a fresh battery and still had the warning on the dash so I tried the spare fob, and that was fine. Time for a call to Vodafone Automotive, and the person I spoke to was super helpful and we tried a few things so here are the lessons learned:

1. After swapping in a fresh battery to the fob, sometimes the car loses connection to it. You'll know this if you get the yellow SD/SIM card warning in the right hand multifunction display on the dash. Assuming the new battery is OK, and the small red light on the fob is flashing, the connection or pairing can be fixed via a call to Vodafone Automotive who can reset the connection remotely.

2. In my case, even with a fresh working battery, the fob would not connect to the car after several attempts. Vodafone Automotive could not see the fob at all so the conclusion was that the fob had broken. They provide replacement fobs for Ā£25 which are posted out via Royal Mail and one should be with me in about a week. When it arrives, I need to call them up and go through the pairing process we tried with my broken fob over the phone again and then all should be well.

So if you have any issues with the tracker/fob connection there's no need to speak to an OPC you should be able to sort it out directly with Vodafone Automotive. For info, they have recently changed to a single contact number for all enquiries and it's 0333 1 222 222.

Hopefully the above may help someone out in the future šŸ˜

And just to close this off, my new tracker fob arrived a short while ago and one quick phone call later it's paired to my car. Job done.

On the subject of tracker fobs. I have never really found a perfect solution to carrying around the tracker fobs. I have used after market leather pouches from the likes of etsy and eBay but non have really matched up the Porsche provenance. I know it's far from a real world problem but my latest 991.2 acquisition from Porsche Centre Sheffield came with complimentary black leather tracker pouches with Porsche logo's. Well done Porsche Centre Sheffield.
Great service by the way I would definitely deal with them again even though I'm 200 miles away.

Are they available to purchase? Looks to be a neat solution to that perennial problem. Making do with a rubber band at the momentā€¦

You would need to ask the Sheffield OPC. They only supplied the press stud oblong one. The other one for the key is from Etsy.
My contact there was a really great helpful guy called Sunny.
