Throttle Response Cam

After having read the article in December's Porsche Post on the Porscheshop open day (which sadly I couldn't make), I am tempted to add the throttle response cam to my Christmas list. Before I write my letter to Father Christmas though, who else on here has fitted one of these? Are they any good?

Mine had one when I got it but I have driven a similar car with the standard kit. The replacement cam does make the car respond quicker but I believe you lose some mpg as you end up using more acceleration and it tends to make it a little harder work in stop start traffic, great if you drive it for fun but maybe not so good if its your commuter.
I'm keeping mine!

I wouldnt bother personally. My 2.7l has one and when I can be arsed I will swap it for an original part.

Just a thought, why isn't there a "slow-response cam" option for the Turbo and S2, if there is any downside to the rapid one? [8|]

I too thought "what's the point" but I got round to trying it on my old 944 and it DOES make a world of difference. I've never kept track of MPG as such, but I still seemed to get the same number of miles per tank.

The modern cars have "sports" switches to sharpen throttle response - think of it as this doing the same sort of thing [8D]

I didn't think there was much difference on my 2 924S's - one had the round profile cam fitted. You just get used to whatever throttle opening you need at that moment.

I definately recommend it, the standard cam is far too long travel for my tastes. Porsche obviously realised this (as Paul intimates above) as the turbo and S2 feel just like a Lux equipped with a throttle response cam. Very fine adjustment of the throttle is still possible, so I'd suggest you shouldn't lose any MPG if you drive in the same manner as before, but it will feel a lot more like a sports car so the temptation to give it some beans may be harder to resist [:D]

Hmmm. Ive found that the throttle is more like a switch ie less progressive; that progress is jerky and that fuel economy has suffered. Ive always been able to make the cars go fast enough before by pressing the pedal further...

I will keep mine: but I'll put it on the 924S which be less of a daily driver.

This was the one and only mod I ever did on my 944 Lux in 1991 - it made the world of difference. It felt so much more responsive.

To be honest I never noticed and mpg difference in my car and it was a daily driver plus a weekend Weymouth to Lancashire to Weymouth cruiser!

However, if you are worried about the slight reduction in mpg as some have suggested, then I guess its time to get a SMART car!

Just bought one off fleabay, £15 delivered so will see for myself what difference it makes.

A bit of a mixed response then, but seeing as I'm not too worried about economy (it isn't my daily drive and besides the economy at the moment is a lot better than I had expected at 27mpg) and the replacement cam isn't very expensive, I think I'll give it a go and see what I think. I can always put the original back on if I don't like it.
