Guys
Anyone know where I can get a new throttle cable for my square dash 944 (1985) ? Mine is split half way through. I know Porsche still do them, but are there any cheaper alternatives?
Thanks.

I did but they say dealer only.
I looked them up on Design 911 website and they came up at £58.00
Just rang my local OPC who have quoted me £13.50 !!
Needless to say, I have ordered one and problem solved! [:D]

Thats cheap ! I just paid £63.61 including TIPEC discount for a throttle cable for my oval dash 944 from my OPC . To add insult to injury it turned out my original cable wasn't stretched as i had first thought and the slack in it was due to a missing part in the throttle pedal mechanism []

Just goes to show how much better the PCGB discount is? [;)][;)]

Might also be because yours is the later model and different. [:)]

Well if the PCGB discount is in the region of 80% then sign me up [:)] . As you say , early square dash models use a different cable although it does seem a pretty big price difference for two very similar parts .

The PCGB discount at OPC's is 10%-and the price I was quoted didn't include my discount, so it's going to be even cheaper! [;)]

I buy most stuff from Porsche. The parts guy at Glasgow (danny) is spot on and always willing to sit and troll through pet to find the bits I want, then give me loads of prices and let me make my own mind up with no pressure.Nothing is ever a problem to him.I've spent a fair bit of money with them over the years but not allot compaired to buying a new car or even goping in for regular services. They don't treat you differently weather you are spending £5 or £5000 aqnd that's what I like about them.

Completely agree with you Colin , Charlie at the OPC in Aberdeen is the same . Always happy to help even when the parts are a matter of a few pence and need to be ordered from Germany . It also doesn't do any harm to have a load of Porsche invoices in your car history file . Not sure if this is reflected throughout the rest of the country but even their labour charges are pretty good for older cars . £60 an hour + VAT which last time i checked undercut the local indie here in Aberdeen and compares well with the average of around £50 + VAT for the typical local small garage here .

Hmm...not too pleased with my OPC. Cable arrived today, and guess why it was so cheap? It was a SPEEDO Cable.....[]
They are getting me a THROTTLE Cable by tomorrow, but it's going to cost £58 as predicted. However, I moaned about their mistake and they are going to discount it for me.....[;)]

..... my OPC Have redeemed themselves! Cable was in first thing as promised and what's more they honoured the original £13 price as an apology. [:D]

One thing of interest-the cable on the car adjusts by the throttle body. It's replacement adjusts at the bulkhead. I pointed it out and the parts man checked-apparently the one I just bought is the only one listed for my car, so it seems to have the wrong cable fitted-series 2 maybe??

The cable on my square dash model adjusts at the bulk head where as my later oval dash adjusts near the throttle cam . No idea if the two cables are interchangeable but i guess you are about to find out [:)] . I'm feeling less aggrieved about the price i paid for my cable now i know your original cheap price was due to a mistake by the OPC . You got a bargain ! Lets just hope it fits .

Having recently bought a lot of parts from Porsche, they often won't take them back if you order the wrong ones as they aren't returnable, but being their mistake it is a good job they did.

My OPC also told me that they couldn't give me the full PCGB discount on older parts, turned out they thought it was 15% but were happy to give 10%. On many parts they are generally cheaper than the alternatives.

I also made sure with the parts manager that if I try to fit the new one and it doesn't fit (Being different) that they will take it back. They will.
