I have a hillclimb 911 which is standing-in this year while I rebuild the 1978 Lola i have just bought with no engine or box.
I'm thinking about suitable engines/boxes for this narrow chassis 2 seater sports racer, and wondered about a 944 N/A with the rear box bolted to the engine direct.

Do they have matching bolts centres?
Can the two be mated like this?
What is the power/torque of a good 944?
Anyone got any pics of a trans/engine out of a car?
Is the ecu free standing like the 3.2 Cararra 911 is?

I need some help please.

Graham.

I don't think the gearbox will bolt straight upto the engine. There is a discussion on another forum (Rennlist) where a chap is installing an Audi S2 5cyl engine into a 944. The complication is the torque tube doesn't bolt upto the engine block, but the Audi S2's used a 944 S2 gearbox. You could go the Audi 5cyl engine route with an S2 gearbox, though I think the Audi lump is very heavy as the block is cast iron.

Also a 944 S2 gearbox will bolt straight upto the modern Audi v8 blocks. Now that is food for thought!!

Scott, in fact that guy with the Audi/944 is using a Supra box. Graham, there doesn't look like there is a lot of room on that car for engine/box. Looks like it's setup for a VW or maybe RX7 setup. 944 engine is very similar in size and weight to a Chev V8 surprisingly.
