I'm not sure if you're asking the question because you know the answer or not! Perhaps SC does stand for Sorry Captain! I was just having I guess - I have read about the history of the 356 and am none the wiser!
Skipper - I don't know the answer - I only said your answer did not seem correct since SC 'Super Carrera' does not fit into the scheme of things. The Carrera 356 (which were the four cam models were the top of the range engines) The SC model followed the C model. The SC had no visible differences on the outside of the car from the C. The engine increased in HP from the C model 70hp to the SC model with a 90hp engine. So to call the new 90 HP car a Super Carrea (thus being a step up from the 4 Cam Carrera) somehow is not logical - but you still may be correct! [
In which case is means 'Stands Corrected'[
About 5 or 6 years ago when I had an 3.0 SC I tried to find this out and there was no absolute answer to that at the time.
The only thing that was certain then was that SC did NOT stand fro Super Carrera, despite all SC owners wishing it to be so. It was emotive then as it seens to be now!
There have been many articles discussing this and as my memory is not that good I can't recall where I read them!! Must be either PP or 911PW though.
Sorry I have not been much help.

So what does "SC" stand for ?? The answer is "Super Carrera". Following on from the Carrera 2.7, the SC model was to have been the last 911 produced, as the "new" 944 model was to have conquered the world. But following unprecedented demand for the SC and a less than enthusiastic public response to the 944, plans were changed and the rest is history.

But the 356 SC was year only made in 64/65 - that does not quite fit with the above
