what should it look like/what does it do?

i've got the bit of trim missing, and there seems to have a hose to the back of it.

the car has the later dash.

To remove the trim, you use a pair of long nose pliers to twist it and then pull it out "¦ which is when a lot of them get damaged. That's probably what happened to yours at some point.

or you can try to pop it out with a screwdriver, then order a new one[:mad:]
 
my trim broke and i replaced it with a speaker grille mesh cut in a circle to fit.
It looks much nicer.
