Test drive jottings.....

Had my test in a 997 S today and I have to say I'm not quite sure.........obviously there has been a great deal done on the refinement front but stepping out of the demo (not sure how many miles on it) and back into the C2 with 5k miles now on the clock, the C2 just seemed much more alive - more noise, both tyre and engine, and steering which just seems to give so much more feedback.
My first thought was a bit "antiseptic" - however on a small jaunt on some twisty bits it did seem to come more alive - sadly I forgot to put the PASM in Sport until near the end of the test and this car didn't have sport chrono so I don't know if that would have made it even better. But the drive back from Guildford to Reigate in the C2 just made me smile more........ There was a hideous squeak from the steering wheel (that apparently only developed today) it was the standard item and I didn't like the feel very much, the metal "inserts" are in the wrong place for me - hopefully they offer alternatives!! the 996 wheel, although less appealing to look at, seems better in use. I like the improved seats and there seems to be more headroom - this car had a sunroof and there was acres of room - don't much like the finish of the PCM surround and hate the indicator stalk - just like the new Mercs - just a personal thing, one flick and you get three to four flashes!! Love the shorter throw of the gearshift but don't see why they've added the clutch depress before starting routine!
To sum up - great car if I want to use one every day, which I could be pursuaded to do so, but I'd like a bit more time in one to be sure I want to spend my £72k on one as my "special" car - but probably will anyway.
