Taycan ordered

Hi All,

I've ordered the 4S for December (pre Brexit import duty) delivery and I've got until November to change specs if necessary.

I've configured it with the performance battery plus but considering that I only do around 4k miles per year and that it will almost always be charged overnight at home, I'm wondering if I'll see any benefit from the extra £4.6k.

Build code is PML4QZB4. This will be my first Porsche so any advice will be very much appreciated.

Hi Jon, I'm no real aficionado but the additional cost of the extra battery capacity is money well spent. Certainly when you come to resell the car it will make it a little more "desirable" to potential buyers. It also means that if you do want to pop off somewhere you have that little extra capacity.
Look forward to hearing about your reaction to the car at the end of the year.

Thanks for replying; I guess it's something I'll regret if I don't go for it so I'll bite the bullet and leave it in the spec. I had a couple of hours in a Taycan Turbo last week and was astonished at the acceleration and handling but the ride comfort was better than my current BMW 640i; a sad factor of ever increasing importance to my 71 years!
I very nearly bought a 911 last year but concluded that it was only really enjoyable in licence risking mode and, although surprisingly practical for that class of car, it wouldn't fit the bill as a daily driver.
I'm expecting to get the 4S for 24 hrs very soon which will give me a chance to give it a slightly less objective review but it's going to have to throw a few nasty surprises to make me change my mind.

I took a look at your configuration. Of course there are so many tempting options, it comes down to budget to a degree. But also what/how much you think you will use it. For only 4k miles per year, I can appreciate some of the bigger ticket options (like the Bose stereo) might not appeal. In terms of smaller options that won't break the bank but might add to enjoyment/experience/value, you might want to consider: privacy glass, electric sport sound, and electric charging port cover?
Where are you based? At some point I will look to arrange a Taycan meet, but under current circumstances this seems like some months away.

Thanks for your comments; my thoughts on your suggestions as follows:
As privacy glass in the UK is only permitted in the rear side windows, I think it looks unbalanced and a bit odd.
I very rarely listen to anything other than news or talk radio when driving so the Bose would be wasted on me.
I prefer the cleaner look of the manual charge port covers and I can't help wondering how you'd open them if the car's battery ran completely flat. That's probably very unlikely and paranoia on my part but I can't help envisaging worst case scenarios, the curse of 45 years in aviation engineering!
Jury's still out on the 'electric sport sound'; my initial thought was to dismiss it as being 'fake'. However, I will try it when I get the car for an extended test drive - I had it switched off on my initial two hour drive around the twisty Perthshire back roads and was too busy enjoying the car to fiddle around with the touchscreen to switch it on (something I hate in cars but sadly it's the way things are going). The other feature I'll explore on my next drive is the how many aspects are responsive to voice commands. Hopefully the sound feature will be and if it gives a sense of occasion to match performance I'll add it to the configuration.
Reluctantly I'll probably go for the performance battery mainly from a resale point of view and if I ever get to do another long drive down south it's something I won't regret.

I think there are some 'failsafes' built into the battery to avoid getting into trouble where you don't have enough to operate the charging point cover...but I prefer not to find out! There have been some earlier reports on customers who have experienced complete battery drain (main battery and 12v battery), but this was a software fault which I think has now been ironed out.
On the voice commands...the only issue I have experienced is that if you are having a conversation with your passenger about Porsche...the car can sometimes get confused in thinking you are raising a command (because the alert words are 'Hey Porsche!')...:)

One thing I was recommended and am really glad I have is the thermally and noise insulated glass. It makes a real difference to the whole experience.
 
Hi All,

Thought it best to jump on the back of Jon D's post. I've gone and done the same, Although I originally wanted the Mustang Mach E.... dont hate me! They delayed that and I've been quite lucky with work this year (given the pandemic!), so I've thrown myself in and ordered a Taycan Turbo S (Build code: PM5GV9C6).

First time Porsche owner, always found the configerations confusing as there was so much choice, I had to have some help from the salesman here! as you can see he didnt steer me towards some of the big ticket items (PDCC, 3D Burmester stereo,etc). I feel like i've got a solid nice looking vehicle, and i'm excited to join the EV world, especially when you look into acceleration, etc i think we are on the cusp of a revolution and i felt the Taycan has become the standard bearer!

looking forward to reciving the car next month (I hope)!
