Tarmaccing

Sorry for the off-topic post, but worth a punt...

Is anyone in the tarmaccing business or know a contact who might be able to help out?

Basically I live on an unadopted road (which means it isn't private, but I get f**d with the repair bills) and it needs a bit of work on an annual basis, and we're struggling to find anyone who will even come and quote as its fairly small sections we want to do at a time (due to limited funds).

So does anyone know someone in this business who serves the Hamilton area?

maybe a long shot but does the street have an RCC (road construction consent) - if so I think you can get the council to adopt - then its their problem - but wont necessarily mean it will get done of course!

I tarmacced my drive recently, and I had a hell of a job to even get anyone to come and give me a quote. Contractors seem to divide into either big national concerns who only want to build motorways, or wide boys in unmarked vans who you shouldn't trust with a barge pole. Eventually I used Gilmartins, a medium sized civil's firm based in Cupar and they made a superb job, highly recommended. Have a word with Gilmartins, and even if they won't work as far away as Hamilton, they might be able to suggest a similar firm in your area. Worth a punt.

Thanks don, I knew you were roughly in this business but thought you only did "big" stuff. I'll have a word with the road fund "committee" and see what their plans are then see you at an Edinburgh club night - I have been trying to get them to hold off on doing small bits this year and try to wait until next year so we have a more sizeable job to be done, hoping that it will mean better prices as its more interest for the contractors. So far they were getting quoted £200 per m2 which I was surprised with..

if Don can sort you out, then cool, if not then give me a call, I have a pal that runs a surfacing company based in newton mearns,

£200/metre is very high, i was paying £10/m2 1- years ago, for simply planer and re-rolling, costs rocket if you want ground prep
