targa conversion to cabrio

I have an 81 SC Targa. I am toying with the idea of converting it to a full cabrio as I believe that the chassis is the same. I have fitted cups, full SS exhaust system, hyd tens., etc and think the conversion would be a good project. I plan on respraying the car next year and would plan on converting it at the same time. Can kits be bought or is the whole idea a non starter. I plan on keeping the car so resale value does not really worry me. I dont want to sell the car and buy a cabrio as i have already put a good deal of work and money into this one.The car is driven max 2000 miles a year and is garaged.Thanks for any advice in advance[8|]

One would assume that you would loose the stiffness of the roll hoop, and would have to add stiffening elsewhere.

Apart from this, the cost, with all the bodywork modifications, sounds a bit (lot !) daunting.
 
Well, on the factory tour, they tell you that up to (but not including) the 993 model the targa was based on the cab, so in theory it is possible...
 
Just as long as the rear spoiler comes with it - far too stylish to be without ! (????)
 
Seeing as the car comes witha 3.6 lump and is tracked hard by the owner that spoiler is well needed, but he also has an electric 964 engine lid that can be added for street use.
Read the rest of the SPECS quite an impresive motor.

As the Targa pre-dated the cabriolet by twenty years or so, what was it 'based on' then?
I would sell your present car and buy a Cabriolet , unless you can supervise the work I would suggest there are very few body shops who can do this, I can recommend one however if you have unlimited cash!
