Sunroof troubles

Seem to have a few issues as arms will retract (they are not enagaged with the sunroof) on ignition position 2 but wont' fully extend, one only moves about an inch the other a only bit more, no action either way at all on position 1.

Assuming the limiters & gears may need replacing (& maybe the micro switch?). How many [sm=spanner1.gif] is this job and any pitfalls to avoid?
 
It's not a difficult job, but is a fiddly one.

Gears sound like the problem with yours (particularly if one side moves differently to the other), and cost a couple of quid each. Changing them is not difficult; a #2 pozidrive screwdriver is pretty much the only tool you need, but the best advice is to ensure that you FULLY understand the system beforehand. Go and have a LONG read of the clarks garage page on "Sunroof" (here: http://www.clarks-garage.com/ ), and follow the links under "Garage Shop Manual" - read the overview as well as the section on replacing bits) and only start to tackle the hardware once you are sure you know what is going on.

Grease everything throughly and take your time. A good tip for a place to start is to slacken off the sunroof clutch to the point where it doesn't work, and tighten it very gently until it just starts turning. That way you won't damage anything if you get it wrong.

Ta muchly - I've read the clarks issue a couple of times now but think I need a few more goes before I completely understand it...How can a hole in the roof be that complicated!!

That's ze germans for you, they built it that way to make it last and to have a cheap sacrificial point to fail at if ever it went wrong. If you were dealing with something french you'd probably be in tears now.
 
Just replaced both gears in mine and it looks a lot harder than it actually is. Still not adjusted the clutch yet as I need a spanner thin enough for the lock nuts.
The microswitches are easy to test with a meter or test lamp.
 
The thin nuts on the clutch are fairly easy if you have some bicycle spanners - they are designed to be pretty thin, and work well well for the job.
