Sunroof Confusion

Hello, swapped the metal sunroof back in last weekend after the Collecting Cars event at the Motorist.


arms retracted perfectly, took glass roof out, put metal one in, now the arms won’t go back up. motor is unresponsive.

I can hear the motor respond if I ask it to retract. I‘ve found the front micro switch which engages mechanically at least.

Any ideas on this, where are the other micro switches hidden & what the logic on these is?

Car is a ‘90 S2
 
Hi Greg - you are doing it with the ignition at position 1? For taking the sunroof on / off you need it at position 1.

Apologies if you are doing this but you didn't say that above :ROFLMAO:
 
Hi, yes started in Positon 1 to retract which works fine and you can hear the motors whirring.

but if I try to re-engage the catches in any position, it’s completely unresponsive. A retraction to a ‘remove’ position is all it will do.

I suspect the central microswitch or the cam has got stuck on the remove position? Managed to manually move everything With a socket so can at least use the car.
 
Sunroof out today, first time ever! Good news, managed to remove/replace without mashing the mechanism! However I was alarmed that the after replacement the switch was un responsive with ignition at Position 1...turned ignition fully on and stared up and it works. Try it with the engine running then??
 
I seem to recall there were some issues with glass sunroof not quite applying enough pressure to the front micro switch - which then stops the arms moving (think it is in this thread https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=908945&mpage=35 but I dont have time to check just now, it is 35 pages! could have been a mall piece of foam tape or a slight bend to the tab to fix.

From memory position 1 is for removing the sunroof arms to extract the roof (and possibly to replace them to the closed position once its replaced.
Opening (lifting) / closing (lowering) while on the move is with engine running.

Only minor issue was when the arms wouldn't move to relocate in the roof . As it's been inoperative for so long I was worried the same fault had reoccurred but on replacing the original roof all was well. It tuns out the central arm of the new roof doesn't always make a good contact with the central microswitch. Its all a bit heath robinson to be honest anyway.
Seals are ok. A couple of spots on the passenger side didn't sit in quite as well as the rest but they seem to be settling down.
A watering can's worth of water on the roof seems to show watertightness has been maintained and hopefully the first contact with proper rain will substantiate this.
The front clips were a snug fit but by pressing down on the outside of the roof they could be closed without too much issue.
Opening and closing seems fine. Just a road test tomorrow morning to work.

Yes, just to confirm that remains the case. To open the glass roof I have to press the switch and the central microswitch by hand. Then it works fine, it's just interesting doing it whilst going along....
 
Thanks David, I do have a vague recollection of bending mine slightly (very carefully and supporting the bit where it attaches to the roof!)
