anyone heard of this on a 944.....or does everyone leave that to the cross-member? [8|]

is it just me or do others hear "contact" from the underside on a once or twice per year basis, usually a B Road with a few yumps? I recognised the cross-over pipe tin cover on tarmac last week, just a gentle brush, but I don't like to hear it.

Standard M030 ride height, 1989 car.

The F1 cars of the 80's had magnesium protection blocks for full fuel load protection, crude but colourful.

A sump guard can be as likely to hole your sump as protect it - you have to ensue that small stones and such cant get trapped behind it, or one good blow will force them through the pan.

I have experienced this, usually when you come across a change of surface (i.e. from fixed to still patched up and pothole-ridden) during an overtake. I've never figured out which bit of the car was getting in contact though - it felt like her rear end was slamming down rather than the front..... so have not considered a sumpguard. I've just had all new (standard)shocks fitted, and haven't driven it "enthusiastically" enough to know whether it might still do it.... but it would be interesting to hear from others.

Bottomed the undersill plastic in front of the rear wheels on the coupe a few times when trying really hard.

Actually the one place I can guarantee to hit them - well could it went from being NSL to 40 - is over a bump where a drain passes underneath on a pretty poor road near home. Its only a little bump (no more than a foot) so you can easily see over it but big enough to just get some air.

Something we found when building the race car was that the sump had a hairline crack which couldn't be seen due to dirt. I believe it happened a few years earlier when I bottomed out the S2 on a country lane.
