Strange Noises - 924S

Help,
my 924S is making a new noise and its not welcome! Its definitely linked to the engine speed and occurs both in gear and in neutral. How to describe the noise? Well its a little like a Flymo but I worry that its something like a camshaft bearing. I had new belts last year but I'm ashamed to say that I never got around to having them re-tensioned. Am I paying the price!!

Any views?

Get the belts re-tensioned pronto. Mine did the same, and it turned out to be the belts slapping on the cover. Loose belts are prone to break, and you don't want to think about the consequences of that. []

If you were the guy who came to front runner in the 924s making a whine, I heard that as you drove past me. It sounds like the belt is too tight, strangely enough. Exactly the same noise my lux used to make if I overtightened it when replacing it.

I've got it booked into Hartech for May, but I need it every day so I'll just have to drive more slowly.

I wasn't at front runner, but I hope who ever it was has been able to read this too!

Thanks for taking the time to respond

A Quick update.
Following an excellent service, with excellent service, at Hartech yesterday the noises were traced to noisy alternator bearings.

Mike, did this mean a new alternator or just new bearings? I think I may have the same problem on my Carrera. The noise seems worse as the engine warms up and is more noticable at idle or low revs.

At the moment it means neither as I haven't got to the point where the noise is intrusive. It will probably mean a new alternator and if so I will plan to get one from Bosch. New bearings might be on the cards, but I'd then need to get a substitute alternator whilst the other one is being repaired as I need the car every day. The I may as well investigate a re-conditioned unit.
