The stone guards on my Cayman are looking quite yellow and have marks I can't get rid of (tar spots etc). The stone guards I'm referring to are those clear "stickers" that sit on the paintwork between the side air intakes and the rear arches.
I called my local OPC and indeed you can order them (about £13+ vat - and before you ask, yes that is EACH, not for a pair). So then I asked if this is something that you can replace yourself, ie. can they be (carefully) peeled without damaging the paintwork. The helpful chap explained that their workshop guys use some kind of heatgun to soften them and then they come off, reckoned a hairdryer or similar would do it. Then they use some "fairy liquid type stuff" (was how it was described - special Porsche fairy liquid no doubt) to allow the new ones to be positioned and the airbubbles pressed out etc.
So sounds fairly straightforward to me. I was going to give it a go, but before I do I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone else here has done the same and if so, do you have anything to report or any tips?
Oh and last but not least I asked how much if the OPC were to do it. Answer was 1.5hrs labour at around £100 or so plus VAT. Yes reall (!) - to remove and apply 2 "stickers". Priceless eh [
