Stereo advice needed

Gentlefolk...

I am afraid I am a little behind the times with technology... I normally just listen to the radio, or recordings of German radio (and attempt to learn German by constant exposure). I would prefer to listen to it live, and, via the interweb thingy, I know my mobile pone can receive it. I also understand that a modern head unit could play stuff on my phone, and act as a hands free kit for my phone. So, if I am about to upgrade my head unit (which is starting to be a bit temperamental about playing CDs), what do I need to look for to do the above? Will any old Bluetooth head unit do, or do I need to specify a bit more than that? My phone is a Sony Xperia Z if that is relevant...

And I dare say this is entirely in the wrong section of a forum... but it is going into a 944!

tref,

You are right, you need a bluetooth enabled head unit. To be doubly sure check that the spec of the unit that you are interested in is capable of "streaming2, i.e. it is capapble of receiving whatever the media player of you phone is playing and outputing it through your cars speakers.

My I also suggest that since you have smart phone, you put all of your music collection onto the phones memory card. Then choose a "mechless" head unit, i.e. one that has no CD drive. This will save you money as such units are cheaper.
