Following from a recent thread regarding the standard sound system in Porsches, I thought the following may be useful to someone.
Having decided that the sound from the standard fitment was a little thin and reedy, I decided to investigate some reasonable cost options to improve the quality a little. I had already changed the Porsche CD/Radio for a Becker Traffic-Pro, which some of you will be aware is the same unit, but with Sat-Nav built-in, an excellent unit by-the-way.
After contacting several in-car specialists I opted to change the standard speakers, and install a 2-channed amplifier. The standard speakers turned out to be single cone paper type, no tweeters, despite the grills implying that there were. These were replaced with new 4" low profile speakers plus tweeters in the front, with cross-over networks, and upgraded speakers in the rear (my car only had the 4 speaker option). The difference is quite dramatic, the sound now has depth, and volume without distortion, and the total cost for the speaker/amp configuration £500.00
