Squeaky/creaky driver’s seat

I thought I would add this post in case it can help anyone else suffering from a squeaky/creaky car seat. For information, my Macan has the 14-way memory comfort seats.

About a month ago I noticed my Macan’s driver’s seat was beginning to creak on and off. This became a regular occurrence until it happened every time I drove the car. I tried setting the seat to different positions with minor initial success until eventually the irritating noises became intolerable – I was going to have to book the car in to see if the issue could be addressed under warranty.

However, before contacting Porsche I tried one last measure to solve the issue myself.

The solution turned out to be as simple as applying ‘WD40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant’ to the moving parts of the seat.

The silicone lubricant is supposed to create a dry, protective film that provides long-lasting lubrication that is safe for interior materials. (standard WD40 evaporates quickly, meaning the squeak will likely return, and can damage plastic and rubber surfaces over time). The spray can comes with a ‘smart straw’ so that the lubricant can be directed accurately.

I raised the seat as high as possible to help access the runners. I then moved the seat base all the way forward before spraying the runner adjacent to the door (and anything else that looked like a moving part or joint), because this was the side the noise emanated from.

After moving the seat base all the way back, I repeated the process.

I would suggest blocking the end of the seat runners with tissue to prevent any excess lubricant running off the runner onto the car’s carpets – I didn’t do this but fortunately the silicone lubricant can be wiped off rubber mats!

Finally, I reclined the seat back as far back as it would go and applied the lubricant to the joint between the back and base.

Since carrying out this quick and easy task, I am pleased to report that I am once again able to enjoy driving my Macan without the irritation of the squeaking and creaking noises.

I hope this is helpful to anyone else suffering from the same issue
