SPEEDO NOT WORKING

how exactly did the speedo behave when working, stopping, and stopping altogether?
The reason I ask is that if you eliminate electrical/sensor issues, it is a common fairly fault with these speedos that the cog gear will disintegrate (plastic) It goes brittle
i understand that when this happens, it is usually preceded by a very erratic jumpy needle for a period and then dead.
The cog gear is readily available and quite easy ,albeit something of a pfaff to replace.

Graham
Speedo was working quite normal with no jumping just stopped for a brief period (30 mins or so) then would work, this carried on for a few weeks but now seems to have ceased altogether, odometer also not recording.
Thanks to everyone offering suggestions.
Nathan
