Another day another question lol

Are the speakers in the back the same size as the ones in the doors?

And what size are they?

Thanks Simon

Up to '87 they are the same as the fronts ,that is 4x6 ,after that they changed to 165mm.
If you are interested i have a pair of 4x6 alpines for sale only 3 months old.

I had the cards off they are both the same size just ordered 2 pair of boss 200w peak 6x4 and in the process of building a sub enclosure to go in the drivers side pocket in the boot (that bit in the wing) that will house a 800w 8" sub and the amp all hidden away so it will still all look standard

Hmmm, don't know the depth of these speakers but be aware the Porsche speaker fitment especially the fronts requires speakers with little depth.

From when the multi speaker option was introduced (1988MY?), the rear speaker apeture was enlarged. Theres room for a larger speaker and the poverty option was provided for by using a partial blanking plate. If you car has the black plate, then removing it will allow you a greater choice of speaker fitments.

On a separate note though, Ive never seen a decent 944 with a 'sub'.

well with abit of luck you will like the out come of the sub i want to keep the car looking standard but i do like my music to sound good

Im not a lover of the very dated 6x4's as you can see [:D]

Interestingly the 968 has a fairly low-rent speaker set-up compared to the 10 speaker setup in the 944T, so I will be having a think on what to do, the 1994 Tape Head and CD multichanger might have to go too...

I can not remember if I have posted this on here before ...if I have apologises [:D]

this is how I installed mine ...I'm very pleased with the sound and the look, it was prior to the new interior.

Do not underestimate the effect the rears have on the sound quality they are actually closer than the fronts

Yes i too found that most 6 x 4's are too deep for the 944 front location. If you fit 968 front speaker covers instead you'll gain about an extra 8-10mm of depth. This is what I did and it allowed me to fit better quality 6 x 4's than would have otherwise been possible.

my 89 s2 had those speaker covers as stock, they're a bit of a pain as the grill keeps falling off though. The cheapy alpine 6x4s will drop right in.

I put 6.5" coax speakers in the back, but I still think it could do with more bass impact. I am, however, far too lazy to wire a sub in, so it'll just have to stay that way
