Hi,
Has anyone experience using platinum or iridium plugs?
Had my '86 944 checked out, nothing to adjust, and still getting approx 300 miles to the tank. Been suggested that different plugs might make some difference.
Also suggested using better petrol [Shell V perhaps?] in stead of the usual supermarket fuel?
Guidance please.

 
I fitted NGK iridium plugs, runs fine but not noticeably better than before - they just last longer. The old copper ones looked like a textbook picture (the "correct" one!) when I took them out - I have never seen such clean and perfectly-coloured plugs, never mind after 30k miles in a 150k miles engine. I also use Shell V-Power; ordinary 95 octane works OK, but the system is always backing off the power (retards the ignition) to prevent detonation. She runs better on 99-octane V-Power and does about 10% more mpg when using it.
 
I run Denso Iridium plugs and I think they are great. Could feel a difference, not massive but worth the premium for the set over standard plugs. The only way you will find out is to try them.. Edd
