Spark plug gap for S2

NGK's web site gives :

Cheers - just found it myself!

I hve a new 'problem' now. My new distributor cap has 2 1 3 4 [top to bottom] printed on. 1 clearly feeds the front plug (nose end) and 4 clearly feeds the rear plug (winscreen end) due to their length. I think I have mixed up 2 and 3 though, and don't want to start it with them the wrong way round...

Just to check: are piston numbers 1, 2, 3 & 4 simply front to back? Am I making sense?

OMG [:eek:] I would file that off immediately just to remove the risk of future MAJOR problems!

ADMINS - can you edit that info into the 'alternative parts' thread in the FAQ's - I don't have authority in there
 
Dead right. Already done it! Guess it's Ok buying a Volvo 760 cap for 20 quid cheaper than origional - but DON'T follow the instructions! Thought I was going mad...
 
The BERU cap from GSF doesn't have the numbers on and IMO is pretty much OE ;) But it doesn't have the plastic cover (this can be salvaged from the old cap I found). Trev got his from ECP which is a Facet branded cap.
 
thats funny Trev i just did the exact same thing yesterday .![:(] removed plug leads 2&3 together grrr someone very kindly posted an image of the S2 cap for me .

I didn't know about the similar part for a V***o are there other standard service parts that fit other cars or are we ,ahem... cough ...not supposed to mention it ?[:D]
 
There seems to be a few bits which fit the 944 (see also FAQ section) which are from other cars. I read on here about the Volvo cap - if the part fits, works and is as good (and is cheaper!) let us know. I reckon...

as long as it hasn't got Volvo or Lada stamped on it [:D] I'd have to draw the line at that [;)]

I dont understand re the Volvo cap?

I can only assume the Volvo engines run the opposite way as all 4 cylinders are 1342

I`d simply use Tippex dots on the cap face and draw a rotation arrow
 
The other choice is to buy the Beru cap which is probably the same as what other Porsche dealers sell which comes with no numbers :D.
 
What are people using for spark plugs, ecp start with Beru plugs for about £1.40 each up to Denso iridium at over £8 each?

Bosch super 4 plugs are £3 each on eBay, anyone used these or not worth the extra pennies?
 
Bosch WR5DC+, from ECP. Used to be a pound each, but they have gone up recently. Although Vauxhall dealers still sell them for less than a pound a pop, but call them something else (they are the same plug, stamped "Bosch WR5DC+" on the side, but the box is "Vauxhall something-or-another").

The super fours offer nothing more than longer service life. But given that knackered plugs are a cause of a LOT of engine maladies, and you can replace a full set for less than a fiver, I'll choose the cheap ones and change them every 5k miles.

my last plugset was recommended to me as a substitute by the motor factor. it has a unique quadruple earth pin head around the electrode. can't remember what make they are now.They certainly give excellent starting and running performance
The only problem is they have the 12mm locknut and none of my nice snap-on sparkplug sockets fit the bore.[:mad:]
I now have to use the box spanner supplied in the tool kit [:(]
Can anyone recognise this spark plug ?
