some questions for the project

Sun roof, I am lucky enough to have a sunroof.

Worked out how to open the roof by tilting it, but does the roof come out? Is this an option with this roof.

On the sunroof there was a middle latch in black I thought it was a leveler so I pulled it and it came off ops whats that for?

Alpine white is this the only white for the 944 lux of 89? As I am going to paint sections of the car and mop the rest. Going to the paint shop to get some.
So im sure there will be a code on the car somewhere.

Any tips [;)]

Looking forward to getting to grips with the car.

Yeah people think black or white is easy but there not so many different shades. Had this with the merc. Its also white.

Even if the sun roof is not powered it lifts out if it is the factory roof and not a webasto or the one I had in one o fmy 924s

To remove the roof panel put the key into the ignition but do not turn it, even to position 1. just put it in the lock and leave it. Unlatch the two real catches either side of the front of the roof panel. Operate the roof switch up switch until it stops. When the ignition is off, instead of tilting the roof, it retracts the lifting arcs into the wheel boxes, releasing the lugs from the roof which you can now lift out.

The peice you seem to have broken off is part of the tongue that inserts into the anti buffeting strip which forms the front hinge that slides in between the lining and the metal part of the panel.

To secure the roof lift it into place and operate the roof down switch, then lock the latches back up. It used to be in my 83 my 924, you didn't even have to operate the switch. I could drive away and the arcs would operate themselves.

My 1986 car did not come with a manual. Having heard how easy it is to break the sunroof I have never tried to remove it. Is the method you describe true of my car also?

Might go for a bit of wind in my hair some time before old age takes away the opportunity! [8|]

Cheers
Mick

From at least 1981 Porsche fitted roofs, as opposed to aftermarket conversion, have been lift out, as far as I know. Even the manual roof lifts out by opening the press stud on the retaining strap. The main diference between the early and late type of sunroof is the arcs that raise the roof up; early roofs did not have the wheel box with replaceable gears, or indeed the teeth along one side, and that is how to tell them apart but in operation there should be no difference. What I suggest is that if you do not have an after market roof try the sequence and see if it works. I'm pretty sure it will but I never like to B/S, so as I don't have first hand knowledge or can remember if my 944s even had a sun roof, am I not going to say that it will but it's simple enough to try. Put the key in the ign but do not turn it. Raise the roof, this will retract the arcs. Unclip at the front. Push up the rear of the roof and lift out sliding it backwards off the hinge/wnd deflector. Good luck!

For the oval dash cars, you put the key in the ignition and turn it 1 click, press the rear of the roof button, that will release the arms from the roof then unclip the front catches, then lift the roof out and back, sliding it off the wind defelector to the rear. putting it back in is the reverse, noting that the front clips will have clipped themselves back up, and will need unclipping! Forgot that first time I took it out this year - couldn't work out why it wouldn't go back in!

Mines an Alpine white 2.7 too.

Brilliant thanks guys, I have it open I will look at removing it later when I polish it.

The bit that fell off was sikoflexed in place, as I re looked, so hence it came off with ease. So I need to look at that. Should be able to make some thing up.

New issue [:)]

Electric seats, very nice.
Drivers side a motor is not working so the seat tips up or down. To one side in a rather comical way.

I will get the seat out to take a look at the motor, just asking is this a common problem?
