simple quick n dirty cill treatment!

I knew my cills were rusting and done nothing about it last year and this is the consequence !
If like me you suspect your cills may be rusting have a quick look right now. Don't put it off till tomorrow or the weekend.

Grab a torch and a flat blade screwdriver. Carefully prise the plastic grille off to both the drivers and passenger door pillars and peer inside with the torch.

If you haven't got the time, space or money to tackle the job permenantly right now at least apply a simple oil and grease mix with a paint brush which should halt the rust for 6-12 months at least.

Make sure you have a bit of a rake along the seams to scrape off any loose rust scales and then hoover all the rust and mud out first.
Attach a 1/2" paintbrush to a piece of strong wire(coat hanger) and then really work the oil and grease mixture into all the rusty areas paying particular attention to every rusty seam and crevice.

I did both sides and the whole job took me just 10 minutes ![;)][;)] Are your cills worth 10 minutes work?

Its not a permanent fix but I guarantee it will stop any further rusting taking place for 6months +

I wouldn't recommend a waxoil treatment if you have as much rust as I had. it will simply seal in the rust and allow it to continue under the waxoil. Waxoil needs a nice clean rust-free surface to be really effective.

Good to see you again Peanut - I didn't think you had been around for a while.

Not quite sure how you are getting into those cills with your scraper / paintbrush. Am I being thick?

And if nothing else it covers up the rust. Out of sight....

I have been looking at your avatar for ages an for god only knows what reason had assumed that you had photoshopped some explosions at the back of your car. Today after a liberal application of lunch time vino, I can infact for the first time see the bushes and the sunshine. Just goes to show that red wine is not only good again heart attack but improves your eye sight.

I think I may do this to my sills asap.

Hi Oli how the devil are you ?

have you been touring down the South West again this year ?

I've been rather busy this year and have neglected the old gal somewhat. i look in occasionally from time to time.

We bought a Campervan last Easter and that has been occupying quite a bit of my time. Its the only way we can get out of the house occasional days and weekends for some respite.

Hows your old gal going ? went for a quick blast in mine the other day and nearly forgot I had a kayak on the roof lol[:D]

Nick,

Very well, thanks. No, haven't been down to the South West recently, but you'll know when we do as we'll be knocking on your front door demanding to share a pint with you!

Is there a roofrack on that 944 of yours? I mean, I can see the additional Promax Roof Spoiler (not sure I would have chosen Racing Pink myself) but am wondering how it is held on?

Oli.

I'll stand you a pint or two anytime Oli.

The kayak is just rested upside down on top of the sunroof . I put a couple of neoprene spraydecks down as cushioning .
I tied the front end to the bonnet brackets and the rear to the rear spoiler. The old gal is getting a bit scuffy these days so I'm not so precious about the paintwork as I once was.[:D]
