Silver dash trim

Now you're not to laugh or make silly comments about this, it's only a thought....[;)]

My S2 is relentlessly black inside. As in black leather, all black dash, black door cards - only the windows aren't black. I need to replace a couple of the dash trim pieces as they are cracked.

Sooo, it got me thinking about the silver-finish replacement kits I've seen before. Has anyone tried them? And, where from as people like PS and D911 don't list them.

I just thought it might be an improvement, breaking up the solid black and echoing the exterior colour.

If I was in your position Paul, Id consider a split black and linen dashboard and a set of linen carpets. I wouldnt consider these though...

Its a slippery slope: before you know it your car looks like this bad-boy:

I'm thinking about going the opposite way (more black)....my interior is relentlessly blue, a real '90s period piece and reminds me of when Fords in "Ghia" trim had horrid colour keyed interiors. Even the headlining is blue!

I've dealt with the steering wheel (Momo Monte Carlo), need to get a black gear lever gaiter, and then get the armrest re trimmed in black to match!! Should tone it down a bit.

Personally don't like the current craze for "bling" interiors...I had a ride a while back in an Audi A4 in S Line trim, and it all struck me as a bit flash. I'm dreading having to replace the family SAAB as the latest models have gone the same way. What's so wrong with a sombre Swedish interior?!

I can see your point though...

Paul,

Before the backlash begins, these guys do what you are looking for

That's the one! I knew I'd seen it somewhere....

I kind of like it, just the dash and none of the other bits - I agree with Simon that it can get a little silly. [&:] I will have to see one in the flesh first though, I think.

Shame on you Mr. Register Secretary! [;)]

You'll get used to the all black - just think yourself lucky it's not blue or grey like most of the late S2's (or burgundy [:(])

My first oval was burgundy and I loved it! It did look like new though: Im not sure what theyd look like now...

Why bother buying it? I've not seen the Prestige Parts bits but I gather they are just stock panels spray painted. Seems to me it is something you could do yourself.

I think it looks OK. Not sure about the piece for the centre console though - a bit too much, but the trims look OK. What about painting them body colour - like the Fiat Turbo. I think that might look OK too.

There is a company in the states that does a kit of transfers that you stick over the top. You can get in various colours, carbon weave affect or even - if you have no taste whatsoever, various wood effects.

I've seen such things in the flesh ... and thought that the owner would have done better to spend the money on some hot needles to poke in his eyes instead. It would have been less offensive and a lot less painful ...

Yes, find one to see for real, but I really really wouldn't go there. How about some pale grey floor mats or something like that? Or even red, if that wasn't too much. Simon's notion of a black/linen effect would be good as well (there were some photos on here a while back of an interior like that, which I thought looked pretty good.) Snag is that it would be a fair chunk more work and maybe more money.

(Have to say, for a money-no-object solution, I have always lived the black-and-tan interiors you can get in some alfas. Black carpet and tan leather seats would be superb, in my book. With a tan gearstick gaitor. But not to everyone's taste, I admit. And it would need to be a custom re-trim as I don't think 944's ever had tan leather as an option.)

I'm not a fan a burgundy interiors either but on titanium silver cars I think it does look the part - it reminds me of some old Ferraris, a bit severe but very elegant. A couple of years ago I spotted a late titanium silver turbo with a very clean turbo S interior and it looked fantastic :)

I actually liked the Silver Rose upholstery (and exterior colour) - it was just too much with the burgundy plastics as well

Have to agree that Alfa do great seats - now all they need to do is ge the drive to the right wheels & make some decent cars ;)

I know exactly where Paul is coming from. My Lux had a New Zealand (all black [;)]) interior and it was quite claustrophobic. I also toyed with the thought of silver trim and then bought a car with linen interior instead.

It is a tricky job to pull off. You need enough silver to make it look as if it were meant to be there but not so much as to be overwhelming.

If you do the centre band it needs to follow on to the door switches as otherwise it breaks that feature line. Similarly I think it should follow through on to the centre console but not around the instrument binnacle as per the car pictures.

As also suggested why not get some trims from a breaker and spray the the same colour as the exterior? you will perhaps need an etching primer to get a good key but otherwise it shouldn't be too onerous.

I've always quite liked just the silver dial rings or changing the dial faces to white, but i'm not fussed on the brushed aluminium look.
