has anyone purchased and used these replacement outer sills from ebay? any use, good fit etc? I have found someone that im confident can fit them and paint them for a great price but I just wanted to check before I went ahead and bought a set of the sills. if not from there where from and how much?

cheers in advance

James :)

Are these the ones here . If so i was looking at them as well and was wondering the same thing . he also has rear quater sections as well here

I've only ever heard of pattern sills costing more to make fit than genuine. The labour and vat exceeds the difference in cost.

I agree with Paul. New factory sills are all currently available via your friendly local Porsche dealer, and given the labour cost involved in a proper job, I would use new factory replacements wherever possible (and recently have done, so my money is where my mouth is).

Though if you don't want to replace a large quantity of metal, i.e. all you want is a small section to patch very localised damage in an otherwise 90% rock solid sill, then this might make more sense as your metalworker will be making a repair section to fit anyway, and this might be a fair starting point.

Buy sills from porsche or promax.they are 150 is each and weel worth the money. The replacement ones are fine for a quick fix or a botch up .I fitted sills last year and they just fall on perfect fit.You need to cut the whole sill off in order to see what is hapopeninmg in behind.Take the carpet out and clean all the sealer off at the join of inner sill to floor to see what the metal is like. Also you need to check the intermediate panels between the sills and the floor to sill panel as well.look at my " what lies beneath post if you want to see what it looks like in behind there.

do you have a link to the Promax ones? mine actually passed the mot test, but the outer part is badly bubbled on the drivers side, so unsure "what lies beneath". I had considered buying one of these USB endescope cameras to have a nosy before I commited to getting sills. a local garage to me has quoted me £250 incl paint for "cash" to fit and paint both sides ;) I tried not to gasp and kept a straight face as best I could without planting a silly smile on my face.

do the Porsche/Promax ones come with the lower rear quarter too? if not how much are they? any links? If I ring nottingham Porsche will they have them at their spares/service area?

cheers for the replies.

James :)

If you pull off the plastic vents on the door frame of the car you will be able to squeeze your hand in there with a mobile phone (being careful not to drop it) and take some pictures of the inside of the sills . heres's mine . a bit grim !

cheers for the reply.

just rang Porsche in notts, got put on hold for 5 minutes then they hung up on me, ala Orange customer service lol.

Good Man, they fit !
Edited to say get the bodyshop to squirt loads, and then some more cavity wax in there.

after thinking about it and then emailing 20 people that have purchased the ebay kits, ive cancelled the Porsche order (sorry).

I emailed 20 people that had bought the kits from ebay, got 7 replies, but each said the same, good fit no issues, in a roundabout way, varying prices to get them fitted though.

I have shown them to the bodyshop Im going to use, they are happy they will be fine and if not they can alter as required with little issue. Im worried to think im going to have to keep this car as I have opted to have all the bits done on it, theres a dint and a crease in the drivers door, a small crease in the front wing, discolouration near the filler cap, and a small blob of rust on the badge panel. so respray of one side and blend, and the sills. good price though ;)

also got to get new flexi hoses and a brake line F to R. and new wishbones (86 balljoints), so it should be minty mint, with a full mot.

I must be mad.

James :)

I ca understand your reasons for buying them. However I would never use anything other than origional panels for sills because in my own experience on looking a fair few 944s is that it is very seldom just the sill that is the problem. You may be lucky but in most cases you will find alott mor wrong once you get the old ones off.If you go to a body shop and ask them to fit new sills they will do just that. However if you strip out the interior which you will have to do anyway and get under and around the floor and clean off all the under seal along the edge of the floor both inside and out side you will be shocked at what you find.My own car was showing only a bit of surface rust at the back of the sills.I started off by just going to patch it in and repaint etc.I could have done that but on advice of a friend who restores cars for a living I cleaned the whole thing with a wire wheel on a grinder and OMG holes everywhere under the sealer. It looked solid and felt solid even with a hammer.Just make sure you get a chance to look for yourself at what it is like and don't just judge it by how it looks when it's done and shinny.

Noted, cheers Colin.

Simon, I have you a number for a bod to fit the engine if you're interested? cash in hand jobbo

Just dropped it off for the work to be done, just waiting for wishbones to be delivered by Elliott and the sills to arrive, and hopefully in a few weeks she will be back on the road.

I bought mine based on the sills looking ok from the outside, bought the USB endoscope and took a look, and oh my god, they look fine, just grey paint and no significant rust, the USB camera was worth £30 for the peace of mind and then my dad used it to find a coolant leak in about five minutes on my mums car that has been bugging him for ages. So just need to attend to the crispy bit behind the wheels, the patch on the front wing and the little bit on the wheel end of the nearside sill, will just grinf it back, let some new metal in and then paint it, luckily all below the stone protect stuff.

just got back from the garage, hes done my brakes and started the wishbones upto now, as it was on the ramps I had a look round it, I said, sills dont look that bad from here, his reply: they're knackered and promptly put his thumb through my sill lol then his hand. made me feel a little sick [&:]

the upside is, the inner sills are in fantastic condition!!
